Coulee Dam's Candy Point trail is getting a makeover from the Washington Trails Association. This past weekend, 10-15 volunteers from all over Washington worked on clearing brush along the Candy Point Trail, starting behind town hall, where a lesser-known trailhead has become overgrown with brush over the years. Workers pruned branches and hauled them back to the trailhead, where the vegetation awaited wood chipping by the town crew before being hauled off. The trail was built in 1937 by the Civ... The Lake Roosevelt Raiders football team showed no mercy to the Bridgeport Mustangs on Friday, defeating them on their own turf 66-0. LR’s win-loss record now stands at 6-1 for the season and has clinched a playoff spot. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders suffered their first football loss of the season in a 28-22 nail biter against the Soap Lake Eagles Friday. The Raiders' win-loss record now stands at 5-1 for the season. Grand Coulee Dam School District has hired a new athletic director this year. Levi Seekins, 32, brings with him experience both as an athlete and as a coach, and he sees athletics as "just a different classroom" that's part of a larger goal. At 6 feet, 6 inches tall, Levi Seekins is hard to miss when you see him at the games or towering in the halls of Lake Roosevelt Junior Senior High School. The Lady Raiders soccer team lost two games on the road this past week, one each in Omak and Liberty Bell. Lake Roosevelt lost 4-2 in a non-league game against Omak on Thursday, the loss largely a result of penalties. Three penalties against LR led to three goals for Omak. Kyle Edmo continues to shine for the Raiders, placing 15th out of 85 runners with a personal record of 19 minutes, 11 seconds. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders pulled off a dramatic comeback Friday while on the road, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Oroville Hornets 34-28 in overtime to go 5-0 for the season. Down by 20 at one point in the game, LR managed to keep Oroville scoreless in the second half. The Lake Roosevelt Cross Country runners participated in the Tonasket Invitational last Wednesday. "Tonasket is one of the last of the old, very hilly courses developed back when district and state courses were very hilly," explained Head Coach Gary Darnold. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders defeated the Brewster Bears 36-14 in Coulee Dam Friday to go 4-0 for the season and leading the league, the first time LR has had this good of a record since anyone can remember. There was never a dull moment on the field Friday night. Touchdowns were followed by interceptions which were followed by interceptions, followed by injuries. Highlights included QB Steven Flowers making a 30-yard run for the end zone in the first quarter, and throwing a 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyrell Kiser in the second. The Lake Roosevelt cross country team competed in their first race of the season Sept. 13 in Bridgeport. In the 2.7 mile race, Raiders Kyle Edmo placed 29th out of about 70 runners, Cameron Tillman placed 38th, and Will Friedlander placed 41st. Only three of LR’s six runners had logged in enough practices at the time of the meet to qualify to run.
