The Lake Roosevelt Lady Raiders girls' softball team defeated the Waterville Lady Shockers last week to finish their regular season, then lost to the Liberty Bell Lady Mountain Lions 13-2 on May 9 in the first round of districts. The Lady Raiders overwhelmed the Waterville Shockers last week to finish their season at 15-2 in the league, 15-4 overall. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders baseball team narrowly missed the playoffs after losing 5-3 to the Soap Lake Eagles May 4. Lake Roosevelt, Soap Lake, and Tonasket competed in a three-way tiebreaker on neutral ground in Brewster Thursday to determine which two teams would go on to the postseason. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders golf team competed at the Lake Woods Golf Course in Bridgeport on May 2, where they played the nine-hole course twice starting from different tee boxes the second time around. “Oroville has a strong, experienced team and the match was a great chance for our players to challenge themselves against strong opponents,” noted Head Coach Steve Files. On May 2 in Wilbur, the Raider boys won 5-0 and the girls 4-1 against the Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats. The closest matches ended in tiebreakers. The Lake Roosevelt track and field team competed at the Rieke Invitational in Peshastin on Friday. “Traey Clark came up big with personal records set in the sprints,” said Head Coach Lori Adkins. Clark ran the 100-meter dash in 12.14 seconds, and the 200 in 25.05. “Our boys’ short relay ran an improved time,” Adkins said. This past week the Lake Roosevelt Raider tennis team lost at home against the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions, then travelled to Okanogan where they lost to the Bulldogs. Against Liberty Bell, the boys lost 4-1, as did the girls. Terry Yazzie and Bradley Wilder had the win for the day competing in boys' doubles, winning the first match 7-5, losing the second 1-6, then winning the tiebreaker 14-12. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders golf team competed on their home course at Banks Lake on Wednesday and Thursday last week, with LR being the team medalist each time and producing the individual medalist. Lake Roosevelt's team score was 402 on Wednesday against Pateros, Oroville, and Almira Coulee-Hartline. LR's team score on Thursday was 415. The Lady Raiders defeated the Pateros Nannies, then tore up the Tonasket Lady Tigers in both games of a softball doubleheader last week. In Pateros April 19, the Lady Raiders won 8-5 against the Nannies. "It was a very tough game for us," said Head Coach Alissa Mansker. Grand Coulee native Shane Proctor won the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Tacoma over the weekend at the Built Ford Tough Tacoma Invitational, earning 93.5 points riding the bull named Pearl Harbor. The event had the top 15 bull riders in the world riding the top 15 bulls. Proctor took the first place spot, beating out Matt Triplett who had 87.75 points, and ending Pearl Harbor’s 14-buckoff streak. The Raiders competed well this week at Desert Canyon, then again at Alta Lake, where Lake Roosevelt was the team medalist, as well as producing the boys’ medalist and girls’ medalist. “It was wonderful to finally get a match in!” said Head Coach Steve Files about the Raider golf team’s first match of the season at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Orondo April 18. The Lake Roosevelt Raider tennis teams won at home against Entiat, then on the road in Oroville, but then lost against Omak at home last week. The annual Nespelem Junior Rodeo will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30, at the Nespelem Rodeo Grounds beginning at 10 a.m. each day. The Lake Roosevelt Raider baseball team defeated the Pateros Billygoats last week, before losing the first game and winning the second in a doubleheader against the Brewster Bears. Playing Pateros in a non-league home game on April 11, the Raiders came away with a 4-0 win. "Our pitchers all did well," said Head Coach Billy Nicholson.
