Grand Coulee Police 10/24 - Two 14-year-old boys were advised that it wasn’t a good idea to carry toy rifles and pistols near the hospital and in the city. Officers explained their toys looked like real guns. The pair were advised to play with the guns at home. - Police had a report of a bicycle stolen while a boy was shopping at H&H Grocery. Later in the day police located the bicycle on Fifth Street in Electric City. It had been spray painted. Second graders at Nespelem Elementary work Friday with Nespelem Valley Electric technicians, who had set up low poles and cross beams for students to experience lineman work and learn that electricity comes from more than the switch on the wall. Older students in the P-8 school participated too. Grand Coulee Police 6/9 - A Newman Lake man who owns two vacant houses in Electric City told officers that windows in one house had been broken, possibly by a pellet gun, and the door on the second house had been forced. The man wasn’t sure if anything had been taken. 6/11 - A man on Diamond Street in Electric City told police that someone had been in his house while he was away. Nespelem Elementary School got a Christmas present Thursday night when electric utility representatives presented a big check at the school's annual Christmas Program. Nespelem Valley Electric and Inland Power & Light Company have started discussions and a study for a possible merger, Ralph Rise, president of NVE’s board of trustees announced in a press release last week. If discussions and the study are positive, the issue would have to go to members of both cooperatives for a vote.
