One person reported a pair of “Brunton” binoculars valued at $500 taken from his office along with a pair of scissors, some blue pens and a stopwatch. It was storm story time in the coulee area Sunday night as the region was hit by a severe wind, thunder and lightning storm. Power was out for some, trees were down, traffic in some areas was stalled or rerouted, and tree limbs and debris were everywhere. Two fires separated by a couple of miles and a day scrambled local fire fighters early this week to protect property. Brisk winds pushed a fire Sunday night perilously close to Lone Pine homes and briefly brought on a level-three evacuation notice for that area as well as River Drive in Coulee Dam. The town of Coulee Dam is looking at about $75,000 in power pole replacement costs, public works director Barry Peacock told council members last Wednesday night, The Barker Canyon blaze of about three weeks ago severely burned 10 poles and damaged another 15 to the extent that they will have to be replaced.
