Grand Coulee Police 4/26 - A vehicle hit the base of a light post near the Riley Point overlook just below Grand Coulee Dam. The driver stated she was distracted while looking at the dam when the accident occurred. 4/29 - Police located a vehicle stolen out of Nespelem parked at the casino and observed a puppy in the passenger seat. Lake Roosevelt Schools’ proposed 2022-23 calendar went through its final reading by the Grand Coulee Dam School District board of directors on April 11 and was approved. The Nespelem School Board approved that district’s calendar for the next school year March 31. The GCDSD calendar shows the first day of the next school year starting for students on Aug. 31, 2022 and the last day as June 16, 2023. Grand Coulee 1/11 - A man was allowed to push a Chevy Astro out of the roadway at King Street and Dill Avenue rather than police having the vehicle towed, while another man was said to be walking to get a gas can to fuel up the car which had run out of gas. - Police spoke to a man who has frequent run-ins with police about him looking in vehicles parked at the Mexican restaurant on Grand Coulee Avenue. Irene (Shorty) M. Brownfield passed away on October 28, 2021, at the age of 90 years old due to Covid-19 pneumonia. Irene was born on May 14, 1931, on the Cox Ranch outside of Lind, Washington, to Albert M. Erdman and Ida Sauer Erdman. She was delivered by Grandma Erdman Sauer, who was a midwife. The populations of Electric City, Grand Coulee, and Nespelem have gone down, while the populations of Coulee Dam and Elmer City have gone up. According to 2020 census data, the population of Electric City is 956, down from 968 in 2010. The count in Grand Coulee is 972, down from 988.
