  • Lions float cemetery management idea to local mayors

    Jacob Wagner|Aug 10, 2022

Hensley explained that as Lions Club members are getting older, it’s getting to be less feasible for them to take care of the cemetery that has about 2,100 people buried in it, including about 450 veterans. Grand Coulee Mayor Paul Tow...

  • The Pacific Northwest agrees: Keep your hands off our dams

    Dan Newhouse, Congressman|May 19, 2021

There’s been a lot of talk about our dams over the last few weeks, and I want to make it abundantly clear: Any “solution” for our salmon population that includes removing the dams on the Lower Snake River is a nonstarter. Rep. Mike Simpson’s proposed Columbia Basin Initiative seeks to breach the Lower Snake River dams in an attempt at boosting the native salmon population – while ignoring the very real issues, and solutions, that are impacting our fish populations. Our native fish species and the Lower Snake River Dams can — and do — coexist....

  • Removing Snake River dams is unwise

    Don C. Brunell|Feb 17, 2021

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson’s $33 billion plan to remove the lower Snake River dams is unwise. However, if he pushes it, he needs to include the impact of breaching dams in his home state, which completely shuts off salmon and steelhead migration. Simpson, a Republican representing eastern Idaho, announced he wants to rupture the four lower Snake River dams — Ice Harbor, Little Goose, Lower Monumental and Lower Granite — all in southeast Washington. Those impoundments have fish passage systems to allow adult anadromous fish to conti...
