A free tire collection event will be held on April 21 and 22 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the NW corner of the intersection of Randolph Rd NE and 19 Ave NE on the Port of Moses Lake. The event is free to Grant County residents. Residents may bring a maximum of 12 passenger or light truck tires per load. Grand Coulee Police 3/28 - Four “safety chains” were stolen from the dumping area of the Delano transfer station. It cost the station $318.07 to replace the chains. The manager showed police a cut section of fence believed to have been used to access the station, and estimated the cost to repair the fence to be about $200. - Police saw a man using a dipstick to try and gain entry to a vehicle parked on Alcan Road. NCW Libraries has added a collection of light therapy lamps to its Library of Things. The HappyLight Touch Plus lamp provides UV-free light with 10,000 lux intensity with adjustable brightness and a timer. The lamps can be checked out for up to 28 days with a library card, and can be picked up and returned to any of the library district’s 30 branch libraries in Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Okanogan and Ferry counties. Grand Coulee Police 3/21 - Police spoke to three females and a male in a car that ran out of gas and was parked on the dirt road to the Crescent Bay area off SR-155. The officer estimated them to be about 18 years old. There was an empty Twisted Tea alcoholic beverage on the floorboard, and it appeared that the three young women had smoked marijuana, while the young man hadn’t, and said he had been the one driving. A resident said she had not been blasting music and that she hadn’t heard music be blasted either. - A city worker told police that a woman arrived at the city shop on Dill Avenue and threatened to sue her. Grand Coulee 3/2- Two men on King Street were reportedly taking items from a residence and placing them in their vehicle. The driver of the vehicle explained to police that he had given a friend a ride to pick up some items. The friend used to live at the residence but had been evicted months prior. There were no locks or “no trespassing” signs on the residence. The friend tried to run from police but was apprehended. Police contacted the property owner, who wished to press charges. Some of the items were suitable for donation to the senior center’s thrift store, such as clothes and books, while other items were better suited for trash, such as broken electronics and a dirty animal cage. Asked how much he had to drink, the man said, “too much.” He blew a breathalyzer result of 0.276, more than three times over the 0.08 limit for driving. The scouts of Troops 24 and 52 have been busy planning events for the late winter and early spring. A successful spaghetti dinner and silent auction was held February 13 at the Coulee Dam Community Church. Local business donated items for the silent auction and Troop 52 imad a patriotic themed quilt for the auction while Troop 24 made centerpieces for the dinner tables.
