  • Pioneer calendar now for sale

    The 2017 Coulee Pioneer Museum calendar will feature pictures of the Third Powerhouse at Grand Coulee Dam, Birdie Hensley said this week. The calendar is dedicated to the men and women who worked on the project, the 50th anniversary date of which is Jan. 3, 2017, Hensley stated. Calendars are $10 and are available through Hensley, as well as membership in the museum. The calendar is full of historical dates of the overall Grand Coulee Dam project.     Grand Coulee Police 11/19 - A Nespelem woman will likely receive a citation from the court for having expired tabs and no insurance. She was stopped when an officer noticed the tab expiration, and she was given a few days to supply the police department with proof of insurance. Later the officer learned that the woman had posted on social media a snide remark about the traffic stop.   • Trees of Sharing now out for helping kids

    The Trees of Sharing collection sites are ready now to help people like you help kids this Christmas. Located at North Cascades Bank, Safeway Pharmacy, Harvest Foods, and Coulee Dam Credit Union, the program allows donors to take an ornament tag off one of the trees and purchase a gift for the local child described on the tag, then return it.   • Scouts collect food for food bank

    Scouts take a break at the Care and Share Food Bank Saturday after bringing in 1,200 pounds of food collected in their annual drive. Empty plastic bags were left on doorsteps all over the community a couple weeks ago with instructions for donations to be placed outside last Saturday. The scouts, from Boy Scout Troop 24 and Cub Scout Pack 24 picked those bags up Saturday and took them to the food bank, located in the basement of the Church of the Nazarene.     Grand Coulee Police 11/14 - A Nespelem woman reported she had just noticed that someone had entered her vehicle and taken several hundred dollars of items, including a tablet. - The owner of a storage business at East Grand Coulee Avenue reported that someone had cut the lock off one of the units. - A vehicle ran out of gas near the top of Grand Coulee Dam. The driver advised police that help was on the way.     Delano resident Gerald Dotson gets rid of his garden waste Monday afternoon. There's still plenty of time to take advantage of a period of free dumping at the Delano Regional Transfer Station. The garden waste fall cleanup started Nov. 12 and ends Saturday, Nov. 19.     ’Tis the season for Trees of Sharing 2016. The Trees of Sharing program is a special way for Grand Coulee Dam area residents to anonymously bless local children who might not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas. Following the name collection, trees with “ornament tags” will be placed at selected locations in the community by November 18. Trees of Sharing is for children and teenagers up to age 18 residing in the Grand Coulee Dam area, including Elmer City and Belvedere.     Long-time Grand Coulee resident artist Keith Powell stands with some of his work at his new gallery in Spokane during its opening event last Friday night at 123 East Second Avenue. Powell said he'll open the gallery for events and by appointment, but will still be creating his art in Grand Coulee. Powell said he has opened temporary galleries in Spokane in the past and done "very well."     Grand Coulee Police 10/17 - Police checked on a complaint of a barking dog at a house on E. Grand Coulee Avenue. The officer tried to contact the owner of the dog, but no one was home. The report stated that this has been a problem before. 10/18 - A woman on Prims Place reported that she heard her screen door slam and looked out and saw a man walking away.     Workers install a chain link fence around the perimeter of the school district's bus area to keep fuel thieves away from the buses. There has been a rash of incidents where fuel thieves have cut fuels line to steal gas. The chain link fence area is being erected to protect district buses from having their gas lines cut.
