There are over 250 probable and confirmed cases of mumps in Washington, including cases in Grant, King, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane and Yakima counties. The Grant County Health District encouraged residents to take every precaution to help stop the spread of the disease. Residents in the county were encouraged to be vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, stated Dr. Alexander Brzezny, health officer. Mumps is a contagious disease with more cases being reported daily. Grand Coulee Police 1/22 - An Electric City man was cited for third-degree theft after he was reportedly seen taking a bottle of wine from Safeway and leaving the store without paying for it. Police caught up with him on Burdin Boulevard and retrieved the wine. 1/17 - An officer told a traveling panhandler at Safeway that Grand Coulee had no services for him and that there was no safe place for him to sleep with the cold weather. The officer informed him of a free bus going to Moses Lake or Ephrata and gave him a courtesy ride to the casino to wait for the bus. The Grant County Health District has received reports of positive rapid tests for influenza A within the last seven days. Health Officer Dr. Alexander Brzezny issued an alert to the Grant County healthcare community and media. “Be aware of increasing influenza activity in Grant County and Washington State,” Brzezny said, “as well as influenza in residents of long-term care facilities (LTCF) with acute illness. The man was fine, but didn’t have any minutes left on his phone so he couldn’t call his brother.
