GCD Chamber to Meet at La Presa

The regular monthly meeting of the GCD Chamber of Commerce will be held at noon at La Presa in Grand Coulee. On the agenda is general business and fall festival updates.

Douglas County Fire Protection Dist. 3 Commissioners Meeting

Douglas County Fire Protection District 3 fire commissioner meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Shop, highway 174 and mile post 14.4.

Grant County Mosquito Dist. 2 to Meet

Grant County Mosquito District 2 will hold its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Oct. 3 (tonight) at 7 p.m. at the Electric City City Hall.

Co-op to Hold Annual Meeting Friday

Members of Nespelem Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. will attend their 73rd annual meeting at Nespelem School Friday at 7 p.m.

NVEC will start the evening with dinner catered by the Longhorn BBQ, a health fair and time to visit and catch up with old friends, said General Manager Laura McClure.

The business meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Members will vote for trustees from three of the nine districts nominated by a committee Aug. 7.

Highlights of the meeting will include many door prizes (must be present to win), McClure said, plus reports from the board president and auditor, as well as 4-H awards to area youth. During the business meeting, a movie for children under 12 will be shown in the school library and prizes will be awarded.

McClure noted member should follow the detour signs to the school, as the bridge is still under construction.

Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter to Meet

Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 127 South Mission, Wenatchee. Jack Powell, geologist with State DNR, will discuss “The Last Billion Years of Washington State’s Geologic History.” About a billion years ago, Washington’s coast, with an expansive coastal plain, lay just west of Spokane. Over the last two hundred million years, as the North American plate moved west, small continents came crashing in from the Pacific, accreting to the coastline to form what we now recognize as Washington. First the Okanogan sub-continent, then the North Cascades micro-continent. Columbia River Basalt flows and Ice Age Floods are our recent history. The program is free & open to the public.

Eagles #2577 Meetings

The Eagles #2577 Aerie meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. The next meeting is October 9 at 7 p.m. The Auxiliary meets the first and third Tuesday of every month. Next meeting is scheduled for October 16.

Free Pinochle at the Seniors

Free pinochle is offered at the Grand Coulee Senior Center Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at 1 p.m.

Them Dam Writers Meet

Them Dam Writers meet the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The meetings are held from 1-3:30 p.m. in the art room at the senior center. The next meeting will be October 3 (today).
