The Lady Raiders will compete in the regional tournament after having defeated the Tonasket Tigers last Saturday to take third place in District 6. The Raiders are sending sophomore cousins Darin Whiteman and Derek Whiteman to state, following a match in Oroville last week and the district tournament in Yakima. Derek Whiteman will attend as an alternate because Darin beat him by one stroke. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders competed at the CWB League Championship meet in Tonasket on May 10, and several Raiders qualified to compete at the district championship in Quincy on Friday. The Bureau of Reclamation has a number of construction projects going on lately, and drivers will notice some delays, starting this week. ACCU Construction Inc., based in Santa Ana, California, got the $4 million contract, which involves repair to various roads and parking areas in the Grand Coulee Dam vicinity. The parking lot at the Bureau, the area by the administration building, the shop in the industrial area, and repaving the road and parking area down to the Left Powerhouse at the dam. The Lake Roosevelt Lady Raiders girls' softball team defeated the Waterville Lady Shockers last week to finish their regular season, then lost to the Liberty Bell Lady Mountain Lions 13-2 on May 9 in the first round of districts. The Lady Raiders overwhelmed the Waterville Shockers last week to finish their season at 15-2 in the league, 15-4 overall. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders baseball team narrowly missed the playoffs after losing 5-3 to the Soap Lake Eagles May 4. Lake Roosevelt, Soap Lake, and Tonasket competed in a three-way tiebreaker on neutral ground in Brewster Thursday to determine which two teams would go on to the postseason. On May 2 in Wilbur, the Raider boys won 5-0 and the girls 4-1 against the Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats. The closest matches ended in tiebreakers. Thirty new campsites at Steamboat Rock State Park will still have to wait to become a reality, with no set date for construction to resume. Currently the area for the new campsites is just a big, empty lot of sand, just as it was left in the fall of 2016. The $2.5-million-dollar project was delayed last fall because of the expiration then of the 2010 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the State Parks, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Washington State Department of Archaeology Historic Preservation (DAHP), and the Colville Confederated Tribes.... A new sound system was being installed Tuesday in the gym at Lake Roosevelt, including new mixing equipment and a new wireless mic system, just in time for a spring music concert. The new equipment became necessary as the old equipment failed at the high school graduation ceremony last year. The Lake Roosevelt track and field team competed at the Rieke Invitational in Peshastin on Friday. “Traey Clark came up big with personal records set in the sprints,” said Head Coach Lori Adkins. Clark ran the 100-meter dash in 12.14 seconds, and the 200 in 25.05. “Our boys’ short relay ran an improved time,” Adkins said. This past week the Lake Roosevelt Raider tennis team lost at home against the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions, then travelled to Okanogan where they lost to the Bulldogs. Against Liberty Bell, the boys lost 4-1, as did the girls. Terry Yazzie and Bradley Wilder had the win for the day competing in boys' doubles, winning the first match 7-5, losing the second 1-6, then winning the tiebreaker 14-12. The Colville Confederated Tribes held their eighth annual Earth Day celebration on Friday at the Nespelem Pow Wow grounds. Those attending learned about the environment and what we can do to help it. A high-speed chase Saturday ended on Peter Dan Road when two vehicles, a police car and the pursued truck, both crashed into the landslide that spans the road. The two suspects then took off on foot, one of whom was later jailed. The chase started around 7:25 a.m. when officer Dan Holland of Grand Coulee Police responded to a report of a disturbance with a knife at the Hill Street Apartments. The Lady Raiders defeated the Pateros Nannies, then tore up the Tonasket Lady Tigers in both games of a softball doubleheader last week. Grand Coulee native Shane Proctor won the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Tacoma over the weekend at the Built Ford Tough Tacoma Invitational, earning 93.5 points riding the bull named Pearl Harbor. The event had the top 15 bull riders in the world riding the top 15 bulls. Proctor took the first place spot, beating out Matt Triplett who had 87.75 points, and ending Pearl Harbor’s 14-buckoff streak. A high speed chase ended on Peter Dan Road when two vehicles, a car and a truck, both crashed into the landslide that spans the road. A woman, apparently a nearby resident, told The Star that two suspects then took off on foot, and that police were going to houses looking for them.
