Lincoln County sheriff deputies assisted Colville Tribal Police with a search warrant in Coulee Dam Tuesday morning, Sheriff Wade Magers said Tuesday night on Facebook. He said two suspects of common interest to the two jurisdictions were arrested on several felony crimes, including drug possession. He did not give other information on the Tuesday arrests. A number of fires are burning in the Pacific Northwest and in British Columbia, the smoke from which has found its way to our area, and all over Washington, and is unhealthy to breathe. Bank collecting school supplies, donations The Grand Coulee branch of North Cascades Bank is collecting backpacks and school supplies for local children in need. The Washington State Department of Transportation has nixed any change in the speed limit from Coulee Playland to the city limits of Grand Coulee. The Electric City council had the topic on its agenda Tuesday night, but a letter from the DOT answered the question before city officials had to deal with it. The document was prepared by Design West, the district’s architectural firm, and is an overview of the district and its building needs. There’s nothing new in the Study & Survey: It declares a need for more classroom space and a lack of financial resources to accomplish this. Grant County Mosquito District 2 will meet in its new building Thursday night at 7 p.m. for the first time. The 40-foot by 80-foot, 3,200-square-foot building houses the district's chemical storage, its two pickups, a laboratory, a restroom with shower, and a small meeting room where the five commissioners will meet for their monthly meetings. The Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area’s Sky Rangers plan three events this week. Wednesday, at Spring Canyon, from 3-5 p.m., you can learn about the upcoming Aug. 21 solar eclipse. Bicyclists on a cross-country journey stopped in Grand Coulee Aug. 1 on their way from Baltimore to Seattle. The group "4k for Cancer" is a fundraiser for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. An Omak man died in a car wreck just north of Nespelem Saturday night. The Washington State Patrol reports that Ronald R. Hance, 39, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup northbound on SR-155 when it left the road to the right about 12:41 a.m. The driver overcorrected and the pickup turned sideways, then left the roadway to the left, struck a guardrail and rolled. Hance was ejected when it rolled, and the pickup came to rest and caught fire. A passenger, Addie P. Simpson, 34, of Spokane Valley, was taken by ambulance to Coulee Medical Center....

After a thief in the night stole their cash, credit cards, car and luggage a week ago, an Electric City couple were happy to have at least their car returned with only minor damage. The latest craze in the coulee is painting rocks and placing them around the community. Two Facebook group pages titled "Rockin' the Coulee" and "Grand Coulee Rocks" advocate for people to paint rocks of all shapes and sizes, in whatever way they want, and to place them around the community. If you find a painted rock you can hide it again or take a picture to share on the Facebook page. And people are encouraged to paint rocks of their own. An audit report made public last week is highly critical of the city of Grand Coulee’s books and states that prior “findings” still had not been corrected. The Senior Meals program offers free food to anyone at the Grand Coulee Dam Senior Center. The food is received through Second Harvest from the local Safeway, as well as from Spokane, and from anyone who cares to donate. A woman advocating allowing her to help stray dogs at her home is going to try again to gain favor with Grand Coulee planners for a dog rescue operation. Dorothy Harris will appear before the city’s planning commission at 5:30 p.m., Aug. 8, at city hall to ask planners to advance her cause for a dog rescue operation at her home on Young Street. Coulee Dam police arrested two men in their 20s for burglary and vehicle prowling after nearby resident reported seeing one of them taking items from the town shop last week. One of the men, Paul Willford, 25, was noticed wandering inside the town shop area by a nearby resident Monday evening, July 24, about 6 p.m. She called her husband to check it out. Grant County Port District 7 is seeking bids to make improvements to its runway, taxi area and apron at Grand Coulee Dam Airport. There was no estimate on what the project would cost and Port District President James Keene said that if the port received an affordable bid the work could be done this fall. Grand Coulee Police 7/24 - Police were asked to assist tribal police who were in pursuit of a vehicle on SR-155. They had asked Grand Coulee police to place a spike strip across the highway near the Colville Tribe’s headquarters and later learned that the suspect had been apprehended near Jackson’s Service Station in Nespelem. 7/25 - Police responded to a domestic violence call at Butler Square and found that a man and woman had been arguing. A Pleasant Valley couple and a Nespelem man were arrested and landed in Grant County jail after an arrest on a warrant Friday. Police learned that Cassandra Graves, 27, wanted on a Department of Corrections felony arrest warrant, was in a vehicle at West Grand Avenue in Electric City. When police arrived at 123 West Grand Avenue at 9:20 p.m., Graves rushed into the residence and tried to slam the door as Sgt. Gary Moore was in pursuit.
