The Grand Coulee branch of North Cascades Bank is collecting backpacks and school supplies for local children in need. Cash donations are also being collected and will be used to purchase supplies. All items will be distributed to schools in the Grand Coulee Dam School District. Donations will be received during August and September.

No fires

allowed at

Lake Roosevelt

Due to extreme conditions, all fires at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area are prohibited, effective 12:01 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, the National Park Service says.

No open flames are permitted, including all fires in NPS-provided fire rings and boxes, charcoal fires, tiki torches, incense burners, candles, and propane campfires. Exceptions include self-contained propane or gas stoves or lanterns.
