Grand Coulee 3/13 - A clerk at Safeway reported to police that he saw a man come into the store and take a bottle of vodka and leave the store without paying for it. He pursued the man out of the store but he sped away. The man was known to the clerk who gave his name to police. – Police were advised of a suicidal subject sitting outside Coulee Medical Center who refused to come inside. The seniors accept aluminum cans ONLY. Please do not put cardboard, plastic bottles or other aluminum in the collection sacks. In 2013, the Seniors collected 3800 pounds (almost 2 tons) of cans and took in approximately $1500 for the Senior Center. That is approximately 30 cans for everyone in the Grand Coulee Dam area. The program helps keep the doors open at the seniors and keeps the cans out of the landfills. Grand Coulee 3/5 - A woman told police that she had been advised by the IRS that someone had tried to access her account and gain her tax refund. 3/9 - A man on Hill Avenue reported a suspicious man taking pictures near his house. He told police that someone has been trying to get into his house and he thought the man might be casing his place. The Grand Coulee Dam Rotary Club plans to offer a Community Spaghetti Dinner next month. The event, which will include a silent auction, is set for Saturday, April 18 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Coulee Dam Town Hall. Funds raised will go toward club projects, including new area welcome signs, its scholarship fund and a project to build “little library boxes,” where individuals can freely trade books by leaving them in a neighborhood depository.... Goodness, February was like the start of spring. No snow, warm temperatures and not much precipitation. Mean temperatures across the state were above normal, and generally, precipitation was about average. What wasn’t average was our regional snowfall, or lack thereof. Here at the home weather station, we had a high temperature of 58° on Feb. 7. The all-time February high temperature for our area was in 1995 at 61°. Our low for the month came Feb. 23 at 22.9°. Grand Coulee Police 2/27 - A man checking Center Elementary School told police that someone had thrown a rock through one of the windows. He said after the glass was cleaned up he planned to put plywood over the window. 3/2 - A man stopped on SR-155 in the middle of Grand Coulee’s business district for speeding pleaded with the officer that he had to go to the toilet. Grand Coulee Police 2/22 - An officer stopped a motorcycle operator for failing to stop at an intersection on Spokane Way. He was cited for that and for not having an interlock device installed. - An officer saw a man wanted on two warrants and stopped him near Pole Park. He was cited for driving while his license was suspended, failing to register his vehicle within 30 days and not having insurance. Rotary members remove the letters from the entrance sign to Grand Coulee on the highway from Wilbur Friday afternoon. The club erected the sign and another like it entering Electric City years ago, but the steel letters are looking weathered. Grand Coulee Police 2/14 - A woman on Weil Place told police that she had loaned her car to her sister for 30 minutes, but two days later it still had not been returned. Later, the woman called to report that she had found the car and didn’t want to press charges. 2/17 - A resident reported that a red car kept speeding on Martin Road and it had a noisy muffler. Mary Palanuk celebrates her Feb. 14 birthday as she claimed the 100-year mark with 37 friends and family members at the long-term care center at Coulee Medical Center Saturday afternoon. Grand Coulee Police 2/9 - Choice Auto Group advised police that someone had rolled a tire down the hill into the back of its building, causing an estimated $300 damage. Police could not find the person responsible. - Police found the gate at the 230 Yard open. The officer closed it and about an hour later found the gate at the 500 Yard open. The officer closed this gate also. 2/10 - A caller told police that someone on Division Street was playing music too loud. Police found a man working on his vehicle with the music going. An ongoing Sally Ward art exhibit and sale at RockWall Cellars to benefit the Okanogan County Historical Society is bringing Sally Ward art owners out of the woodwork.
