    Grand Coulee High School Alumni Association will meet at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, May 17, at Grand Coulee Community Church, 405 Center Street, one block south of the old GCHS building. The purpose of the meeting is to select recipients for the 2017 scholarship awards. Selection will be a little more difficult this year, as the Board of Directors voted to broaden the eligibility of students who may apply for the annual scholarships to include any graduating high school senior who is a direct descendant of alumni who attended the Grand Coulee... Full story

    The Arbor Day Foundation is offering a handy tree-care booklet designed to help people plant and care for trees.     We certainly aren’t seeing the amount of rainfall that the Olympic Peninsula receives with an annual average of 140 inches a year. Yet, we have been wet here in our region of the state. With all that rain and melt-off, things do happen — flooding, mudslides, roads washed out and crop planting delays.     Grand Coulee Police 4/30 - A woman who had just recently moved into a home on Sunny Drive in Electric City told police that she had punched the wrong button on her security system and it had sounded the alarm. 5/1 - A Prins Place resident called police to report a suspicious person wearing a “wife beater” T-shirt and jeans. Police talked to the “suspicious person” and found that he was walking on private property trying to find a place where he could get cell phone service so he could call his “old lady.” Police told him to stay off private... Full story

    Grand Coulee 4/25 - A driver from Orting was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and not having an ignition interlock device after police responded to a suspicious person complaint from a woman on Goodfellow Avenue in Electric City. - Officers stopped a vehicle that had expired tabs near the former middle school. When the vehicle stopped, two persons from the car fled, leaving three still inside. Two of those remaining in the car were wanted on warrants for their arrest and were detained.     Grand Coulee Police 4/16 - USBR Plant Protection reported an alarm at the 500 KV switchyard station. The officer recorded that there were a number of tumbleweeds against the fence. - A man at Spring Canyon Apartments told police that he had left one apartment and entered another, where three males holding knives stood up and looked at him.     Coulee Dam town officials planted two European ash trees at the entry to Douglas Park in observance of Arbor Day Wednesday. The town was recently recognized as a "Tree City USA" municipality for its ongoing efforts to take care of its trees.     The little shop on Main Street that opened with coffee, knickknacks and T-shirts three years ago now plans to expand its restaurant offerings outside. Junkers, which began offering subs and wrap-style sandwiches in January 2016, will add outdoor seating within a month, say owners Richard and Mandi Button.     Grand Coulee Police 4/11 - Dispatch advised police that that a man smelling of alcohol had been reported as leaving a local business and getting into his car.     The GCHS Alumni Association has broadened the eligibility of students who may apply for the $500 scholarships they will be awarding this year. Seniors who are graduating from Lake Roosevelt High School have been eligible since 2001, when the association awarded their first two scholarships, and this year any graduating senior from any high school who is a direct descendant of a person who attended Grand Coulee School District 55 at any time may also apply.
