COVID rates are still high in local counties and the state as a whole, with the state reporting over 35,000 cases in the past 14 days. In local counties, cases among those in the 20-40 age range far outnumber any other age group. As of Dec. 15: Grant County had reported 6,035 total COVID-19 cases, 103 reported just Tuesday. The total includes 65 deaths, 11 of those in the past week. There have been 22 cases in the Grand Coulee Dam area and 29 in the Coulee City area, up six in the past week. Efforts from local scouts to collect food donations from the community last week brought in over 2,000 pounds of food to the Care and Share Food Bank. Carole Nordine, who manages the food bank, said they received lots of mac and cheese, soups, and fruits and vegetables. She felt that this year’s haul from the annual event seemed better than in previous years. “It was awesome!” she said. Combined with the foods already there, the donations brought in from the girls and boys in local Scouts BSA troops will last through about March, Nordine said....

Grand Coulee Police 12/5 - A woman said that she confronted two women stealing tires at apartments on Coulee Boulevard, and that she was almost run over by them. She said that when they drove off in a blue Chevy truck with a red rack she was almost pinned between their truck and hers. A car fire in Coulee Dam and a burning house in Grand Coulee kept local firefighters busy this week. Very early Monday, Grand Coulee and Electric City volunteers were dispatched to a house fire on Roosevelt Drive in Grand Coulee. A police officer arrived first and made sure the occupants were outside and OK. A COVID-era rule intended to help individuals has meant lost revenue for cities, and utilities. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s Proclamation 20-23, first issued in March of 2020, doesn’t allow utilities to be shut off for a resident, nor for late fees to be charged. If you have a drivers license and an insured vehicle, you could help local senior citizens by volunteering to deliver meals to them. “We are in desperate need of volunteer delivery drivers,” Senior Meals Director Chay Heilman said. If you heard loud booms on Friday or Saturday night, it was probably local man Alan Cain lighting them off with about eight of his friends from the Northwest Pyrotechnics Association. The fireworks were lit on Cain’s property along SR-174 near the Lakeview Terrace area. Francis John Michael Reyes, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. He was born on May 24, 1937, in Nespelem, Washington, to Modesta (Abraham) Shadle and Catherino Reyes. He grew up in Okanogan County, graduating from Okanogan High School in 1955. Francis then joined the Air Force in 1955 serving until 1959. Lowell Hensley passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, after a short illness. Lowell was born in Newbridge, Oregon, June 18, 1936, to Logan Hensley and Alberta Pease. He was very young when his family moved to Mansfield, Washington and he spend most his life in the Mansfield Area. He only completed the eight grade and than went to work for his Uncle farming. Free COVID-19 testing will be offered to all community members in the Grand Coulee Dam area tomorrow, Dec. 8, from 3-8 p.m. at Lake Roosevelt High School. The Grand Coulee Dam School District Board of Directors will be holding an Emergency Zoom Board Meeting today, Friday Dec. 4th at 5:00 p.m. to discuss 7th-12th grade re-opening.
