    A light for security Jerry Sands and Paulette Webley requested that a street light be placed on a pole in the alley near the Grand Coulee Veterinary Clinic. Sands’ letter noted that several of his storage units had been broken into, and Webley had the same problem with her units.   • Ambulance calls may hit 400 this year

    Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Chief Richard Paris advised the council last week that ambulance calls will likely hit 400 for the year. He said that as of Nov. 15 the department had answered 347 calls, about normal. Paris also reported that during the month of October the department had 34 calls, including five in Coulee Dam and 21 in Grand Coulee. He said the ambulance had eight calls to transport patients.     The Trees of Sharing collection sites are ready now to help people like you help kids this Christmas. Located at North Cascades Bank, Safeway Pharmacy, Harvest Foods, and Coulee Dam Credit Union, the program allows donors to take an ornament tag off one of the trees and purchase a gift for the local child described on the tag, then return it.     Grand Coulee Police 11/14 - A Nespelem woman reported she had just noticed that someone had entered her vehicle and taken several hundred dollars of items, including a tablet. - The owner of a storage business at East Grand Coulee Avenue reported that someone had cut the lock off one of the units. - A vehicle ran out of gas near the top of Grand Coulee Dam.     The Bureau of Reclamation Grand Coulee Dam is anticipating construction of its new fire station this spring, but there will be several changes before construction begins, the agency said in a press release. On Nov. 21, the speed limit will be lowered from 40 mph to 30 mph on the section of SR-155 that passes the Grand Coulee Industrial Area facilities, where heavy equipment and construction vehicles will enter and exit the highway at Industrial Road for approximately 18 months after... Full story

    A 2017 Coulee Pioneer Museum calendar will feature pictures of the Third Powerhouse at Grand Coulee Dam, museum promoter Birdie Hensley said this week. The calendar is dedicated to the men and women who worked on that huge project, the 50th anniversary for which is Jan. 3, 2017, Hensley stated.     Lynn M Jackson, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 6, in Spokane, Washington, surrounded by family. Lynn grew up on a farm and graduated in 1943 from Sunfield High School in Michigan. After serving two years in the Army, he and his bride moved to Washington where he furthered his education, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1953 from Eastern Washington College of Education.     Grand Coulee Police 11/7 - An Electric City man reported to police that someone threw something into the path of his vehicle and broke the windshield. - A dog that constantly barks at a residence on E. Grand Coulee Avenue attracted police again. The owner of the dog had been cited earlier; still the complaints come in.     A former Electric City man and owner of local exercise facility, Body by Dam, reportedly turned himself in at the Grant County Sheriff’s Office last Thursday after charges were filed alleging he assaulted local police last April.     The Bureau of Reclamation is extending the public comment period for a proposed multi-year powerplant overhaul project at two Grand Coulee Dam powerhouses. The initial 30-day comment period ended Nov. 7; however, at the public’s request, it has been extended to Nov. 21.     A 100-year-old Odessa man, who was the oldest living man known to work on Grand Coulee Dam, has died. Edwin Kerns, who in his latter years, returned to Grand Coulee Dam on his birthday, May 25, passed away Nov. 3. His full obituary is on page four in this week’s Star Newspaper. Employees at the Visitor Center honored Kerns each year when he returned to view Grand Coulee Dam, and especially last May 25, on his 100th birthday. Kerns worked on the dam from 1935 to 1939.     Reg Morgan passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Tacoma, Washington. He was born June 19, 1931, to Gemma Paglieri Morgan and Reginald E. Morgan Sr. in Seattle, Washington, graduating from West Seattle High School. In 1980, his work in fisheries research with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service brought him to the Coulee for a fish population study on Lake Roosevelt.
