    Electric City plans to distribute $40,000 of its hotel/motel tax funds to a handful of organizations in 2018, the council voted last Tuesday night. Upon recommendation of the city’s lodging tax committee, the council voted to fund its lodging tax applications with reserve lodging tax monies totaling $42,920, which includes $1,600 for advertising and $41,320 for the design and planning of two planned parks on McNett Avenue and Grand Avenue.     If you notice the grass turning to brown at North Dam Park, blame a faulty pump. The Bureau of Reclamation installed a submerged pump in Banks Lake several years ago just over North Dam, which abuts the park. That pump quit working last week, Wade Taylor told the Coulee Area Park and Recreation District Monday night.     Windmills to get some love The historic and whimsical Gehrke Windmills and North Dam Park will get some planned maintenance next month, and a new fund has been set aside for their upkeep. The Coulee Area Park and Recreation District, which manages North Dam Park, started a dedicated fund for the windmills’ maintenance with a $200 donation from North Cascades Bank last month.     The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $1.6 million contract Thursday to Taylor Enterprises of Grand Coulee for grounds maintenance and landscaping, the USBR said in a press release Tuesday. The contract calls for providing personnel, materials, tools, and equipment to maintain the Grand Coulee Power Office grounds and associated landscaping.     This Saturday night, consider heading to the North Dam area to see a free fireworks show put on by the Northwest Pyrotechnics Association.     If you hear a loud explosion, hopefully it's just local man Alan Cain, who recently received his Pyrotechnics Display Operator License allowing him to use display-type fireworks that normal civilians can't get their hands on (lest they lose some fingers).     A few races for local public office will be contested in this year’s primaries, but the real issue is the number of offices for which nobody filed a candidacy. A special three-day filing period has been set up, May 23-25, for those who would like to file for offices currently slated to remain empty. A proposal was made to the Grand Coulee City Council Feb. 21 by Bob Valen, who made the request on behalf of the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce.
