Darin Whiteman led the Raiders Thursday when they took on the Okanogan Bulldogs at Okanogan Valley Golf Course, medaling for the boys with an 83 on the 18-hole round on a par 72. “It was a great round of golf by Darin,” Head Coach Steve Files said. “He drove the green on number 10, which is a short par 4, and nearly made eagle.” Finishing second for the Raider boys was Lucas Bird at 120 strokes. Tonasket defeated both the Raider boys’ and girls’ tennis squads Thursday, after shuffling schedules to accomodate the weather. A White Swan match that had been scheduled for April 15 has been moved to the 29th, so that LR could travel instead to Tonasket to the makeup match last week. The Raiders split a doubleheader against the number-one team in the Central Washington 2B North April 5. With their first win over the Brewster Bears in several years, The Raiders now sport a 7-1 overall win-loss record, 3-1 in CWL North play. Raider baseball held out for a double win at home against Soap Lake March 29 in the last non-league doubleheader and their last home games until the end of April. In the first game, the Eagles and the Raiders played a close game, but Lake Roosevelt was able to pull out a one-run win, 11-10. In the second game, LR establish a strong lead and held on to it. Lady Raider Softball is currently 5-3 overall and 2-2 in Central Washington 2B North League play. Lake Roosevelt dominated the Soap Lake Eagles March 29 in strong fashion. The Lady Raiders shut out the Eagles in the first game, 22-0. In the second game, the Eagles were finally able to score a run, but the Lady Raider offense was too much for the Soap Lake fielders. Raider tennis players took on Liberty Bell at home March 29, then faced Wilbur-Creston on March 31 in Creston. Against Liberty Bell, the Raiders struggled, losing the match to the Mountain Lions. Jordan Charles recorded the only win for the Raider boys. That came in the number 3 singles as he defeated Tyler White in a tiebreaker game. At Oroville March 29, the Raiders took on the Hornets and the Omak Pioneers in a nine-hole, par 36 round. Behind Whiteman, Dylan Jenkins finished with 60 strokes. Raider Baseball continued to find early season success last week, posting two more wins. Lake Roosevelt improved to 4-0 with a doubleheader win over the Almira-Coulee-Hartline Warriors March 23. The game was originally scheduled for March 22 but was postponed due to weather. In the first game, the Raiders had to fight hard to earn a one-run win. The final score was LR 4, ACH 3. In their first win against ACH in 15 years, the Lady Raiders took the first softball game from the Warriors last Wednesday before losing the second contest in the doubleheader. The Lady Raiders struggled early and were down by five before scoring seven unanswered runs to get the win, 7-5. Raider track showed improvement at the annual Ray Cross Invitational in Ephrata Saturday. Raider golf competed in the second match of the season last night in Oroville against the Hornets and the Okanogan Bulldogs, after the Raiders had a week to refine their skills from the first match in Moses Lake. Raider tennis players fought hard in their matches but could not defeat the Oroville Hornets in Coulee Dam Thursday. The boys' team picked up one win in singles competition out of the five total varsity contests. That was in the number-two singles, where Isaiah Baty defeated Elijah Burnell in two sets (6-4, 7-5). Local kids can work on basketball and more in a clinic with retired basketball great Gary Payton next week. Athletic Director Rich Black said Tuesday afternoon he had just learned the high school gym had been scheduled for a clinic hosted by Payton, who played point guard for the Seattle Sonics for 13 years and won the National Basketball Association championship in 2006 with the Miami Heat. Raider Baseball began the 2016 season with two wins over their Central Washington North 2B League opponent Bridgeport Mustangs. LR jumped out ahead early and stayed ahead of the Mustangs. On the mound, Tyrell Kiser, Devan Black, and Kolby Picard had great outings, picking up many strikeouts while allowing only one run in two games. The Lady Raiders started the 2016 softball season on the right track with two big wins over the Bridgeport Fillies Saturday. At Grand Coulee the Lady Raiders defeated the Fillies in both games by the scores of 18-1 and 17-2. The first game only lasted three innings before mercy rule went into effect, the second went four innings. The wins give the Lady Raiders a two-game lead over half the league. The Raider boys’ tennis squad is off to a 1-0-1 start to the 2016 season. The boys tied Entiat at two matches apiece March 16, then swept the Pateros Billygoats at Pateros on Friday. Lake Roosevelt’s girls’ tennis players started the season with losses in both matches. The girls were swept by both Entiat and Pateros. Raider Track opened the 2016 season in Oroville on the Saturday at a low-key event where many teams were short some athletes and were trying members in different events to find the best combination for them. Okanogan won the meet on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. The Lake Roosevelt boys finished 10th with 15 team points, and the LR girls finished 13th with two team points. With a large team and a little extra help from the community, the Raider Golf program kicked off the season at Moses Pointe Golf Course in Moses Lake March 14 against the Warden Cougars and Moses Lake Christian Lions.
