Grand Coulee Dam School District has hired a new athletic director this year. Levi Seekins, 32, brings with him experience both as an athlete and as a coach, and he sees athletics as "just a different classroom" that's part of a larger goal. At 6 feet, 6 inches tall, Levi Seekins is hard to miss when you see him at the games or towering in the halls of Lake Roosevelt Junior Senior High School. The Lady Raiders lost two nail biters this past week, succumbing in each volleyball match in their tie-breaking fifth sets. In Bridgeport Tuesday, after going down 2-0, Lake Roosevelt won the third and fourth sets to tie things up, but lost the fifth set to the Fillies 15-10. The Lady Raiders soccer team lost two games on the road this past week, one each in Omak and Liberty Bell. Lake Roosevelt lost 4-2 in a non-league game against Omak on Thursday, the loss largely a result of penalties. Three penalties against LR led to three goals for Omak. "Overall I believe our team outplayed them and had control the majority of the game," said Head Coach Casey Moore, "but part of learning soccer is how to use your body legally." Lake Roosevelt Raiders cross country runners participated in the 5k Omak Invitational last Wednesday. Kyle Edmo continues to shine for the Raiders, placing 15th out of 85 runners with a personal record of 19 minutes, 11 seconds. The Raider football team didn’t play last Friday, as it was their bye week. Raider football continues this Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., with their homecoming game on Greene Field in Coulee Dam where they’ll host the Soap Lake Eagles, whose win-loss record stands at 3-3. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders pulled off a dramatic comeback Friday while on the road, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Oroville Hornets 34-28 in overtime to go 5-0 for the season. Down by 20 at one point in the game, LR managed to keep Oroville scoreless in the second half. Still down by 12 with five minutes left in the game, Quarterback Steven Flowers rushed for one touchdown, then threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Tyrell Kiser to tie the game and force it into overtime.... The Lake Roosevelt Cross Country runners participated in the Tonasket Invitational last Wednesday. "Tonasket is one of the last of the old, very hilly courses developed back when district and state courses were very hilly," explained Head Coach Gary Darnold. The Lady Raiders lost one volleyball match at home and one on the road, but are looking forward to league play, which starts this week. Lake Roosevelt played last Tuesday against Brewster at home, losing three games to one. "Brewster's young team proved to be very poised throughout the evening," said LR Head Coach Kasey Garvin. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders defeated the Brewster Bears 36-14 in Coulee Dam Friday to go 4-0 for the season and leading the league, the first time LR has had this good of a record since anyone can remember. Lake Roosevelt cross country runners attended the Okanogan Invitational last Wednesday. The runners are already showing an improvement since last week. The Lady Raiders soccer team played the Bridgeport Fillies on the Lake Roosevelt home field in Grand Coulee Sept. 20, leading most of the game but losing the lead in the final minute - and the game in overtime. Lake Roosevelt's volleyball team last week rallied against Waterville and swept Oroville to bring their win-loss record to 3-1. The Lady Raiders found themselves down two sets to zero against Waterville Sept. 13, but came back to win the next three sets for the game. The Lake Roosevelt Raiders stuffed and mounted the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions 44-0 in Liberty Bell Friday. Highlights included QB Steven Flowers making a 30-yard run for the end zone in the first quarter, and throwing a 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyrell Kiser in the second. The Lake Roosevelt cross country team competed in their first race of the season Sept. 13 in Bridgeport. In the 2.7 mile race, Raiders Kyle Edmo placed 29th out of about 70 runners, Cameron Tillman placed 38th, and Will Friedlander placed 41st. Only three of LR’s six runners had logged in enough practices at the time of the meet to qualify to run.
