COULEE DAM — Average attendance in Grand Coulee Dam School District for the month of May was 679.24, the school board learned last Monday night. The district budgeted for 680 students and this is the first month since September last year that the attendance has been below budget. The high month was in December, when the average was 689.97. The Grand Coulee Dam School District has renewed its contract with the Keller District to provide maintenance of its bus fleet. The cost of the service is $850 a month plus cost of parts and tires. The Grand Coulee Dam PTA hosted what they hope will be the first annual Lake Roosevelt Schools Science Fair last Friday at the LRHS gymnasium, where 23 students from kindergarten to seventh grade, participated. Fourteen judges from various scientific backgrounds evaluated projects in three different grade divisions: kindergarten to second grade, third and fourth grade, and fifth through seventh grade. Olympia — Washington state high school juniors and seniors with an interest in law enforcement as a career will have an opportunity to spend a week this summer learning about the roles and job opportunities within law enforcement. Applications are being accepted for the 39th Annual Washington State Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Camp to be held at the Washington State Patrol Academy in Shelton from July 10 through July 16, the WSP said in a press release. A number of school elementary students are taking part in the Colville Tribal recycling program. The contest is on, with students from Nespelem, Lake Roosevelt, Keller, Inchelium and Paschal Sherman competing to see which school can collect the most plastic number-one and -two bottles before Earth Day, April 22. The Lake Roosevelt Elementary bands and chorus will hold a concert in the LRHS gym at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23. Coming in April, the Lake Roosevelt junior and senior high bands and choir will perform at the same location. The April concert is a change in the schedule that originally called for the JH/SH group to perform the same day. Representing the Lake Roosevelt schools at the North Central Washington Regional Spelling Bee March 24 are Dylan Wiles and Showaway Hunt. Wiles is in seventh grade and the son of Jeannie Duclos. Lake Roosevelt’s seniors are headed to California for their special school year-end trip. The proposal was presented to the Grand Coulee Dam School District directors Monday night by Associated Student Body President Devan Black, and after a brief discussion, the board approved the request to travel. The board learned that 25 seniors are eligible to make the trip. They will leave Sunday, May 29, and return Tuesday, May 31.
