  • Boyd Galbraith earns doctor degree

    Aaron Boyd Galbraith was awarded a degree of Doctor of Medicine recently from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University in Hanover, N.H. Galbraith is the son of Allan Galbraith and Lorena Boyd of Wenatchee and the grandson of Larry and Gerry Boyd of Coulee Dam. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Lewis-Clark State University in 2008 and volunteered for AmeriCorps prior to starting his medical studies.     Rob Skordas, who had a chiropractic practice in Grand Coulee years ago but changed careers, is now the manager of Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Dams Office, which manages, operates and maintains Hoover, Davis and Parker dams and associated facilities on the Colorado River. You can bet your booties that yard sale shoppers in the Coulee are in for a heck of a ride this summer if the half-dozen sales held in Electric, Grand and Elmer Cities are a true indicator. Saturday’s rummage sale at the Grand Coulee’s Zion Lutheran Church had all of the elements of a Priority One sale: a great location in a grassy, shady area with stuff set out on tables and on tarps and lots of volunteers to help with pricing, sacking and even loading.     Five men and one woman were on hand last week to celebrate their 70th Mason City High School class reunion. The five men were graduates of 1943, and the woman graduated in 1946.     Army First Sergeant Anthony (Tony) Wilson returned from Afghanistan in November, 2012. He spent 13 months in Afghanistan as the First Sergeant of the 737th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company. Fort Bragg, N.C., is the home of this company. Wilson has recently been scheduled for reassignment to Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.     Michelle M. Prince, daughter of Sergeant First Class Sara Zlateff and Lieutenant Colonel Pat Zlateff both U.S. Army retired, has been promoted to Petty Officer First Class or PO1. She is currently stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, aboard the USS Vella Gulf CG72. Having just returned from her fourth tour in the Persian Gulf, she is awaiting orders for her next duty station.     Navy Seaman Recruit Scott D. Rosco, son of Candi M. and Gary V. Rosco of Electric City, Wash., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Rosco completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.     Long-time Coulee Dam residents, L. Kent and Linda Peterson, have received a mission call from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their service will be for a duration of 18 months at the church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their primary assignment will be in the language production resources division as interpreter coordinators.
