    After 40 years working at the hospital, Lorale Johnson said she has no plans to retire soon. "Who wants to go home and just sit?" she said. Johnson was honored last week for her four decades of work in the facility that is now called Coulee Medical Center, with co-workers describing her on a bulletin board full of cards with words such as "Never Ending Dedication!," "energy", "blessing," and "joyfully."     Grand Coulee Police 2/10 - Dispatch reported to police that there was an intoxicated man passed out with a bottle of Fireball on the steps of a residence on Van Tyne Avenue. When police arrived, the man was up and staggering and had a laceration on his forehead. He refused an offer of treatment and requested a ride to the casino, where he could catch transit to Nespelem. - A Moses Lake woman told police that there was a juvenile duct taped to a pole at the Tropical Pig location in Electric City.     Our conversations seem to be revolving around the weather. It’s understandable, it’s been cold and wet; lots of snow on the ground, and some of our friends have been south or to Mexico and are bragging. We also have a general tendency to not like cold. There are some exceptions; I’m one, I prefer cool weather, not hot. The curse of a lot of folks this time of year is the snow.     Grand Coulee Police 2/4 - Police checked on a report that someone had kicked in an apartment door on Hill Avenue looking for a person who was supposed to have a lot of tattoos. The police report stated that there was no evidence the door had been kicked in. 2/5 - An Electric City driver was issued a reckless driving ticket by mail after she allegedly ran an officer off the road on Sunny Drive in Electric City.     Joining the Arbor Day Foundation is an ideal way to get in the mood for spring planting. Anyone who joins the Foundation in February 2017 will receive 10 free Colorado blue spruce trees or 10 free redbud trees to plant when the weather turns warm. The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for America campaign. The Tree City USA program has supported community forestry throughout the country for the past 40 years.     Income tax time is here! Free tax preparation is being offered at the Grand Coulee Senior Center again this year. Volunteers trained in cooperation with IRS and AARP will be available every Tuesday, Feb. 14 through April 11, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This service is available to anyone with low or middle income. You do not have to be seniors or members of the senior center to take advantage of this free help. However, special attention is given to those 60 or older.     There are over 250 probable and confirmed cases of mumps in Washington, including cases in Grant, King, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane and Yakima counties. The Grant County Health District encouraged residents to take every precaution to help stop the spread of the disease. Residents in the county were encouraged to be vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, stated Dr. Alexander Brzezny, health officer. Mumps is a contagious disease with more cases being reported daily.     Grand Coulee Police 1/22 - An Electric City man was cited for third-degree theft after he was reportedly seen taking a bottle of wine from Safeway and leaving the store without paying for it. Police caught up with him on Burdin Boulevard and retrieved the wine.     1/17 - An officer told a traveling panhandler at Safeway that Grand Coulee had no services for him and that there was no safe place for him to sleep with the cold weather. The officer informed him of a free bus going to Moses Lake or Ephrata and gave him a courtesy ride to the casino to wait for the bus.     The Ridge Rider Saddle Club chose their Colorama Rodeo queen last weekend, who will look familiar. Caitlin O'Neil, the 2016 queen, will again promote the local rodeo scene around the rodeo circuit.     Inland Northwest Blood Center along with the Grand Coulee community blood Drive volunteers led by Melanie Slatina are planning a blood drive for Monday, January 23. Donation hours will be from 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the community room in Coulee Medical Center. INBC needs an average of 200 blood donors every day to meet the needs of more than 35 hospitals in the Inland Northwest. A single donation can save the lives of up to three people!
