A 4-H Sewing Day Camp is being held at the Malott Grange Hall July 13-16 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is for age 8 and up. Parents are welcome to sew along. Bring a sack lunch and your sewing machine. For more information call Libby 826-2210. This camp will have youth learn beginning sewing and work on beginning projects every day. Some sewing machines are available for youth to use. Grand Coulee Police 6/29 - A police officer assisted a Coulee Dam officer in the investigation of a burglary on Holly Street. - A man came into the police department office to report a fire on “B” Street. The officer responded to the area to provide assistance to firefighters. - A citizen on Third Street reported water gushing up near a hydrant. The Fort Okanogan Interpretive Center on SR 17 just north of Brewster is hosting free public programs throughout the summer. The programs range from blacksmith demonstrations to tribal beadwork art and preserving family archives. They are scheduled from this Friday through Sept. 20. Local students were named to the spring, 2015 honor lists at Big Bend Community College, the school announced last week. Grand Coulee Police 6/21 - USBR Plant Protection advised police that a group was preparing to go fishing at North Dam Park as the sun was just setting. Police advised the group that it was a daylight-only area and members of the group packed up and left. 6/22 - A man told police that a neighbor’s dogs had been barking for three hours. Luke and Isaac Olson are bringing their country rock sound to Coulee Dam, July 4, where they will perform as the Olson Bros. Band, in the park below the Visitor Center. The two hail from Olympia and seem destined for fame with their musical and songwriting skills. The duo won the The Texaco Country Showdown national songwriting contest with a cash prize of $5,000, and soon plan to return to Nashville for a recording session. Grand Coulee Police 6/15 - USBR Plant Protection reported a vehicle parked at Station 5 after hours. An officer learned it was a Bureau of Reclamation employee from out of town locating where a meeting was to be held the next day. - Police found the door of the wire storage area unsecured and fixed the problem at the 230 kv switchyard. 6/16 - A man on Young Street reported that a neighbor had backed into his vehicle, causing damage. Though our mean temperature was a bit higher for May, the month was on the normal side. We recorded a high for the month of 89.5°F and a low of 36.5°F (all-time high was 100°F in 1986 and the all-time low was 21°F in 2002). The mean was higher than the all-time mean for May (58.4°F) at 62.5°F or 4.1°F higher. May was above normal, slightly, for precipitation. We recorded 1.3 inches for the month while the mean is 1.1 inches. A little “extra” rain is always welcomed. We are a ways into June already, and a look at what is being “predicted... Full story
