  • Class of '85 reunion set for Aug. 21 and 22

    The LRHS class of 1985 will be celebrating their 30th year class reunion the weekend of August 21 and 22. Friday night, please meet at the Electric City Tavern for mingling and drinks. Saturday, picnic for family and friends at Spring Canyon starting at 11 a.m. (Bring your own picnic/beverages.) Saturday night, there will be an appetizer/potluck at the Golf Course at 7.     Grand Coulee Police 7/13 - Someone threw a rock through the window at Jack’s Spring Canyon Service but got away with only about $20 worth of items. The thief scattered Cheetos onto the parking lot. The window will cost about $100 to replace. It was reported that the store might have the thief on its security tape. - A person who walks regularly along Martin Road said he saw several batteries just out of view stashed along the road.     A mother osprey hovers near her three chicks at their nest in Coulee Dam Monday. During the recent heat, the parent birds stood over the chicks to shade them atop the 100-foot pole erected when new high power line tower construction made moving the nest from an old tower necessary. Now, says photographer Nora Jenn, this year's chicks are not quite ready to take flight, but that will come soon, and people will be able to see the chicks learning to fish. - Nora Jenn photo...

  • Aluminum cans only at the seniors

    The seniors accept aluminum cans ONLY. Please do not put cardboard, plastic bottles or other aluminum in the collection sacks. In 2013, the Seniors collected 3800 pounds (almost 2 tons) of cans and took in approximately $1500 for the Senior Center. That is approximately 30 cans for everyone in the Grand Coulee Dam area. The program helps keep the doors open at the seniors and keeps the cans out of the landfills. Please do not put other material in with the cans because we have to dispose of it and the and that raises the already high garbage... Full story

    June was dry, indeed, and hot, too. Let’s start with a look at the temperatures first. The mean June temperature is 65.5°F, while here at the home weather station we had a mean of 74.9°F, a whopping 9.4°F increase. The all-time high temperature for June was 105°F back in 1938. I recorded two days, June 27 and 28 with highs over 107°F (107.1 and 107.9 respectively). Six new single high-temperature days were recorded at the “official” weather station for Grand Coulee for June, 8, 9 and 10 and 27,... Full story

    Grand Coulee Police 6/26 - Police assisted a Coulee Dam officer in pursuit of a man driving at speeds up to 80 mph as he moved from below the dam into the city of Grand Coulee. The vehicle was pursued at speeds well over the speed limit until stopped on Federal Avenue. Coulee Dam police chose to charge the man; but he is also facing suggested charges in Grant County of attempting to elude police, malicious mischief, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence involving an accident and driving while his license was... Full story

  • 4-H Sewing Day Camp planned

    A 4-H Sewing Day Camp is being held at the Malott Grange Hall July 13-16 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is for age 8 and up. Parents are welcome to sew along. Bring a sack lunch and your sewing machine. For more information call Libby 826-2210. This camp will have youth learn beginning sewing and work on beginning projects every day.     Grand Coulee Police 6/29 - A police officer assisted a Coulee Dam officer in the investigation of a burglary on Holly Street. - A man came into the police department office to report a fire on “B” Street. The officer responded to the area to provide assistance to firefighters. - A citizen on Third Street reported water gushing up near a hydrant.     The Fort Okanogan Interpretive Center on SR 17 just north of Brewster is hosting free public programs throughout the summer. The programs range from blacksmith demonstrations to tribal beadwork art and preserving family archives. They are scheduled from this Friday through Sept. 20.     Local students were named to the spring, 2015 honor lists at Big Bend Community College, the school announced last week.     Grand Coulee Police 6/21 - USBR Plant Protection advised police that a group was preparing to go fishing at North Dam Park as the sun was just setting. Police advised the group that it was a daylight-only area and members of the group packed up and left. 6/22 - A man told police that a neighbor’s dogs had been barking for three hours.
