OLYMPIA – June 24, 2013 – Washington marine law enforcement agencies will participate in a national special emphasis campaign June 28, 29 and 30, to cite people who are operating boats while under the influence of alcohol – also known as BUI. The campaign, called Operation Dry Water, is a coordinated effort to heighten enforcement and awareness. Grand Coulee Police 6/18 - An Electric City woman told police that someone called and wanted her phone number and Social Security number. She refused to provide the numbers and in turn told police of the incident. A scam of some kind was suspected. - A woman on Palmer Avenue in Electric City told police that a neighbor’s dog came at them snarling and barking and prevented her from getting into her house. Grand Coulee Tigers graduating class of 1963 will host their 50th-year reunion with a spaghetti feed at the Eagles Lodge on B street in old Grand Coulee on Friday, June 21, Kaye (Pozar) Fegert said. A man with local ties was killed in a traffic accident June 11 in the Tri-Cities area. Steve Covert, husband of Cindy Covert and son-in-law to Kern and Margi Overman, of Grand Coulee, died in the collision with another car but reportedly turned his car to save his son in the passenger seat. His funeral took place in Pasco Friday. Margi Overman said Cindy will be in town this weekend to attend another friend’s memorial.... Full story

Grand Coulee Police 6/9 - A man who told the officer that he didn’t want to go to jail on a warrant, did just that. The Omak man was stopped because of a faulty brake light and the officer found that he was driving with a suspended license, didn’t have insurance, and that he lied to the officer. The Coulee Cruizers will strut their stuff this weekend at North Dam Park. It will be the 29th annual showing of the Best Rod Run by a Dam Site, always a favorite of local people who enjoy the work individual members of the Cruizers put into their cars. It all kicks off Friday at 5 p.m., in the parking lot of Hometown Pizza, where the group will have its “cruise in.” The kickoff for the weekend lasts until 7 p.m. during which time there will be the annual “poker run” and a chance to cruise some of the scenic areas around the coulee. Grand Coulee Police 5/27 - Police recovered a stolen mountain bike taken from a resident at E. Coulee Blvd., in Electric City. An Electric City resident was seen riding the bike and is being charged with being in possession of stolen material. 6/3 - An officer noticed a vehicle near Four Corners that didn’t have a license plate and stopped the driver at Banks Lake Park. Grand Coulee 5/27 - A Keller man known to have a suspended license was seen exiting a vehicle at a service station. At first he denied being the driver, but then changed his response saying, “Yeah, I’m revoked first.” His vehicle was impounded and one of his passengers had a valid arrest warrant and another in violation of a curfew requirement. The vehicle is under a 60-day impoundment. Zion Lutheran Church will be holding a yard sale Saturday, June 15, in order to help raise money to purchase mosquito bed nets for children in Africa. After learning that many children are dying from malaria but with an insecticide-treated bed net for $10, children can be saved, the church decided to hold this sale and give the proceeds to help buy these nets. Grand Coulee Police 5/20 - A barking dog brought police to Hill Avenue, where the officer told the dog’s owner that he needed to keep it from barking and keeping neighbors awake. 5/21 - Police recovered a vehicle stolen in Soap Lake, finding it at a Yakima Avenue residence in Delano. The driver of the car fled. However, officers know the driver and have referred the matter to the Grant County Prosecutor. A Thrivent Financial free food truck will be at the Zion Lutheran Church, Friday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to noon, officials stated this week. The church is located at 318 Mead in Grand Coulee. The free food opportunity is part of the Second Harvest program, and is an annual event here.
