    Ambulance busy Grand Coulee’s ambulance made 40 calls during August, Fire Chief Richard Paris reported at the last city council meeting. Six of the calls were in Coulee Dam, 25 in Grand Coulee and nine were transports between medical facilities. He also reported that the volunteer fire department made two one-alarm calls, one mutual-aid call and one run into Lincoln County. Their actions had been picked up on the USBR Plant Protection security camera. - Police checked on a 911 hang-up call from the Variety Store.     Alice Lee Hood, 86, of Elmer City, Washington, left us Tuesday evening, September 8, 2015. Alice was born February 25, 1929, into the Fairfax, Oklahoma, home of Ollie and Edna Stumbaugh, and graduated Valedictorian of the 1947 graduating class of Fairfax High School. Alice married her sweetheart LeRoy Hood in Fairfax on June 28, 1947, and the newlyweds soon moved to Opportunity, Washington, in the Spokane Valley.     Grand Coulee Police 9/4 - Police helped settle a dispute over a truck on Main Street, where police asked that the key to the truck be given to its registered owner. The person who had the key claimed the truck had been gifted to him, but he got his things out of the truck and it was returned to its owner. - Police checked on a 911 call from Coulee Medical Center.     Collecting shoes for developing countries will continue through the end of this month, Coulee Medical Center Guild president Clea Pryor said this week. The Guild has been collecting donated shoes since early July, with a goal of getting 100 bags of shoes. They had about 82 bags of shoes as of Tuesday, stored in a room in the basement of Coulee Medical Center's professional building.     The Grand Coulee Dam School District is contracting with Coulee Medical Center to provide supervisory nursing services for the new school complex in Coulee Dam. The school board approved a measure that will provide two days of on-site registered nurse care at the schools, and also provide consultation when needed. The school also has two practical nurses who provide care, one at each school, five days a week.     A Coulee Dam-based effort to help out firefighters on the North Star Fire is catching on like wildfire. It started with a GoFundMe effort to raise money for a continuing effort to supply baked goods and other small items that fire- fighters might need.     Good people of the coulee area have already sought a way to donate clothing and other items for any evacuees from the fires, but the Red Cross shelter at the school is not the place to take them, officials there said Thursday. Stepping up to fill that role is the American Legion Post 157 in Electric City, which will take such donations in clothing and other necessities, or in cash, to give to people in need because of the fire.     Grand Coulee Dam school personnel have offered their buildings for use by firefighters and other fire needs. Superintendent Dennis Carlson said Tuesday that there is an 80 percent chance that the opening of school will be delayed until Sept. 8, due to the fires.     With most of Nespelem in level 2 evacuation status, Coulee Medical Center has accepted several residents of the Colville Tribal Convelscent Center, and the hospital has set up an incident command center to be ready for more should the need arise.     Grand Coulee Police 8/3 - USBR Plant Protection advised police that there was a dog kept in a van at the 230 kv switchyard. Police found a Bonneville Power Administration contractor who said he takes his dog swimming in the mornings, then runs him about 10 a.m. and takes the dog home at 11 a.m. The officer checked the van about 3:30 p.m. and the dog was not inside.     Shoulder work to delay traffic Drivers should expect delays of less than 10 minutes starting yesterday morning, Tuesday, Aug. 4, on SR 174 toward Bridgeport as road crews work on the shoulders, the DOT said late Monday.     Two injured in highway accident The Washington State Patrol reported a two-car accident with injuries Saturday about one mile north of Coulee City. A car driven by Janet Pate of Coulee City was struck by a vehicle driven by Richard Wood of Moses Lake. Wood and a passenger, Janet Wood, were taken to Coulee Medical Center, as was Pate. Both vehicles were totaled. Wood was charged with driving too fast for conditions, which was listed as a cause along with inattention.
