It would also be a chance for incumbent mayors and... Full story

  • The tradition of volunteering

    Jesse Utz|Mar 13, 2013

Someone recently asked me, “Why should I volunteer?” After I answered the question and had more time to let the question really soak in, I wondered why some people give their time openly and easily while others drag their feet to help out. So I reflected back on why I volunteer. I remember my father was always volunteering at the Moose Lodge, helping with the Christmas traditions they had. The Christmas party for kids of the area at the Moose Lodge was a big deal back then. I also remember my mo... Full story

Ten Years Ago The bald eagle became the focus of hundreds of tourists last weekend as they flocked to the Grand Coulee Dam area to look at the national bird during the “Balde” Eagle Festival. “We doubled what we had last year,” said Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce Pres. Tim Alling. The festival was “very much a success in that manner.” Several indicators of tourism show that people returned to the area last year after a very bad 2001 tourism season, but they are spending less than in 2000. No one at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s meeting spoke in favor of the 10-foot drawdown, proposed to help endangered salmon by increasing river volume rushing past McNary Dam.
