Grand Coulee Police 3/21 - A call of a burglary in progress on A Street brought officers who found doors on a vacant residence open. The police stated that they had been to the house earlier and found the doors open and secured them at that time. The Grand Coulee Dam and Nespelem school districts’ boards of directors will hold a joint meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. at La Presa Restaurant in Grand Coulee to discuss items of mutual interest. Raymond R. "Ray" Estrada, 72, passed away in Coulee Dam, Washington, Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017. Born October 11, 1944, in Riverside, California, to Ramon Garcia and Margaret Ramos-Estrada, Ray was raised in Mira Loma, California. Grand Coulee Police 3/12 - A dispute over a niece smoking pot at a Weil Place residence brought police. It was decided that the niece and uncle would leave the house for the night. - A woman told police that she received a counterfeit $20 bill when getting change from Safeway. City officials in the four towns will be more than happy to see winter end, but they all fear what is going to happen to city streets in the region. Ken Dexter, public works director for Electric City, summed it up last week when he stated, "It has been the worst winter I've seen in 20 years or so." Grand Coulee Police 3/6 - Vandals did about $125 damage at Young’s Welding. Boys with long skateboards were thought to be responsible. The suspects tipped a display over and broke a rock, the police report stated. 3/7 - USBR Plant Protection was notified by a citizen of two small juveniles on the Coulee Dam bridge who appeared to be distraught. The department tried to contact Coulee Dam police, but when they couldn’t, a Grand Coulee officer drove to Coulee Dam. Colorama will have a new carnival this year, Rainier Amusements, out of Portland, Oregon, the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce announced this week. The new carnival is one of the featured attractions for this year’s Colorama Festival, May 12-14. “We are pleased that we have been able to contract with such a highly respected amusement organization,” chamber Executive Director Peggy Nevsimal stated. The Grand Coulee Dam School District has had its problems with the harsh winter, and will have to repair sidewalk and playground concrete walkway problems when spring arrives. Sidewalks in front of the new school have had surface problems and the same problems have cropped up on playground surfaces, Superintendent Paul Turner advised the school board at its last meeting. It’s not easy to get used to driving 10 miles per hour slower on a short stretch of highway you’ve been traveling daily for decades. That’s a problem many folks face trying, straining, braking to navigate the multi-lane stretch of highway 155 by the Bureau of Reclamation’s Grand Coulee Project, which the bureau slowed from 40 to 30 mph because it’s building a new fire station across from Pole Park. Three student athletes who placed at the state wrestling tournament in Tacoma last month were treated to lunch at The Siam Palace with the Grand Coulee Dam Rotary Club Wednesday. Police encountered a woman who refused to stop and went around the corner of the apartment complex, where she fell, breaking her ankle. She had complained that a man had hit her.
