Lake Roosevelt's relatively short Raider basketball team seriously beat up on their league's perennial powerhouse Brewster Bears Friday night, 90-56, signaling with a lot of talent that Raider fans will continue to like this basketball season.

Head Coach Ed Wolfe had touted the varsity team's defensive chops earlier in the season, but they've got some serious scoring ability too, and it's widespread - over the court and through the team.

Freshman Kayman Jordan lays one up for two points against Brewster.

They scored on fast breaks a lot, with Chase Marchand feeding freshman Kayman Jordan the ball for an easy layup before anybody else realized the ball was at the other end. And passing with the rhythm of a Gatling gun helped negate the height handicap.

True, the young Brewster varsity team includes four freshman this year, but the Bears boast seven players at 6 feet and over. The Raiders, who don't list their heights online or in the program, went under, around or through them.

They beat 1-A Omak the next night, 78-66, and took town Mabton 84-54 Tuesday night in Coulee Dam.

Next up, the Raiders (8-0 overall) play Okanogan (2-3) on the Bulldogs' home court on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m. They they'll host Bridgeport (4-0) that Friday night. Both of those contests count in the North Central Washington 2B League.

WIAA's Rating Percentage Index currently scores LR at second among the state's 2B schools, behind Colfax.
