The Lake Roosevelt Raiders' baseball week took an unusual turn Tuesday night in Okanogan, where a 10-0 loss to Brewster in the Central Washington 2B league tournament became a forfeit win after the Bears were found to have used an ineligible pitcher, according to LR Coach Billy Nicholson.
The ruling kept the Raiders alive long enough to face Okanogan later that night. The Bulldogs won that game 22-2, but Lake Roosevelt will continue its postseason Friday at Tonasket, where the Raiders will play for third or fourth in the league and seeding into the district tournament, which they had already qualified for.
Before Tuesday's league tournament games, LR had closed the regular season with a 0-10 league record, 2-19 overall, with non-league losses in the last week to Waterville and Almira-Coulee-Hartline. Brewster (6-4, 8-12) was third in the league behind Liberty Bell (9-0, 17-2) and Okanogan (7-3, 14-6).
Waterville beat the Raiders 10-2 on April 29 despite LR collecting five hits. Tanner Lauseng doubled for the Raiders, while Devin Duville drove in both LR runs. Noah Marconi, SJ Gorr, Zane Bjorson and Lauseng each had hits, and Marconi stole a base.
On the mound against Waterville, Marconi, Jace Lewis and Bradyn Yazzie combined to strike out 10. Lewis had the strongest relief outing, striking out seven over 3.1 innings while allowing one run on three hits.
The following day, Almira-Coulee-Hartline shut out LR 12-0. The Raiders managed two hits, one each from Yazzie and Marconi, while drawing one walk. Lewis started and went three innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out two. Gorr followed with three innings, allowing six runs but none earned, giving up two hits and striking out one.
Against Brewster Tuesday, before the forfeit ruling, LR was held hitless in a 10-0 game shortened after two innings. Hoss Lauseng pitched for the Raiders, striking out three while allowing four hits. Only three of Brewster's 10 runs were earned, with LR committing three errors.
Lake Roosevelt will play Tonasket (3-6, 8-11) there on Friday for third or fourth place in the league standings, with district tournament seeding on the line.
