Grand Coulee

Police

8/20 - A woman told police that while driving toward the Four Corners intersection, her ex-boyfriend was driving in front of her. She realized her brakes didn’t work and was unable to stop at the stop sign. She said that her ex swerved in an attempt to cause a collision. Police spoke to the boyfriend who explained he had swerved to avoid a collision, and that he had been aware there was an issue with the brakes on the woman’s car. Police determined that there was insufficient evidence a crime had occurred. The woman was told that it was illegal to drive the vehicle in the future with the unsafe brakes.

8/21 - A man turned himself into police after learning he was wanted on an arrest warrant. He was taken to the Grant County Jail. He expressed concern about not being able to continue work as a full-time firefighter and was advised to tell the court about his circumstances during his bail hearing.

- Police responded to a report of a vehicle abandoned at the city shop on Dill Avenue. Police were eventually able to contact someone who said the vehicle would be moved, and it was, avoiding a tow.

- Police responded to a report of a sim card being stolen from a woman’s tablet. The suspect is another woman who had been helping her set up the tablet with the sim card to use like a phone. The card, itself, has no value other than the service associated with it, which was canceled. Police were unable to talk to the suspect.

- An E Street man turned off his radio following a noise complaint.

8/23 - A man was concerned about a pit bull with a bandana and a German shepherd running loose near Alcan Road and Spokane Boulevard. An officer explained that since the county animal outreach program doesn’t accept their animals, and the city doesn’t have a pound, there weren’t many options but he would try to locate the animals and see if he could assist in some way. Police located a German shepherd puppy at a residence whose occupant explained the dog had been hanging around and seemed to be neglected. The officer elected to care for the animal until it could be taken to the vet the following day, when he learned the animal wasn’t microchipped and scheduled a wellness exam and to get the dog necessary vaccinations. The officer paid for the vet bill out of his own pocket and elected to care for the animal until a suitable home is found.

- Police pulled a car over near North Dam Park knowing that it was registered to someone with a suspended license who was also wanted on a felony arrest warrant out of Spokane County. The man was arrested and taken to Spokane County Jail.

8/24 - A woman said that a Grand Coulee Avenue residence was abandoned and bringing down the value of her property. She requested a city ordinance be written about the issue. Police didn’t respond as no law enforcement action is possible for the situation.

8/25 - Police documented a collision at Safeway in which a pickup backed out of a parking stall into an SUV that was in a lane of travel resulting in minor damage and no injuries.

- Police cited a man with criminal trespassing after he was seen parked in the parking lot of the city shop on Dill Avenue. The man said he threw bags of trash in the dumpster there. Police told him that it was a private dumpster paid for by the city and also pointed out a no-trespassing sign at the entrance to the property.

8/25 - Police went to a Spokane Boulevard residence and assisted with a child custody issue.

8/26 - Police assisted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office with an assault case that took place in Douglas County on Road 26 Rex. A man had been hit with a baseball bat. The suspect’s vehicle was parked on Roosevelt Drive. Police retrieved suspected weapons from the vehicle after being allowed to search the residence for the suspect, who was not there. Police then found the victim at a Wenatchee Avenue residence and took photos of his injuries where he said he’d been hit on the arm and side of his torso with the bat. Police gave him a ride to the hospital. Police forwarded their details along to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

- An elderly couple at a Grand Coulee Avenue gas station appeared confused, not knowing where they were and saying they had “been to the moon.” A woman assisted them with jumper cables and bought them food. Police found the couple and confirmed that they both seemed confused, not knowing where they were, why they were there, or if they had family in the area. Police found a phone number of their son in their paperwork. He was able to pick them up a few hours later from the hospital, where they had been taken with dehydration thought to be a possible factor in their confusion.

8/27 - A man and woman were arrested on Electric Boulevard for an alleged assault in Douglas County. Police had located their vehicle in Douglas County after a request by the sheriff’s office there, and waited for it to head into town before initiating the arrest. They were taken to Mansfield where they were transferred to a Douglas County deputy.

8/25 - After seeing a car with expired registration on SR-155, police took a man to Lincoln County Jail on a warrant for a domestic violence charge and cited him for lying about his identity.

- Police went to Steamboat Rock State park as other agencies were far away. A female was reported crying at the park. Police were unable to locate a crying female.

8/25 - A man was banned from the grocery store in Electric City after the owner complained about him holding a sign with his name on it. The man had a sign claiming the owner wouldn’t pay for his labor after he had built the coffee stand on the property. Police explained to the owner that the man would be allowed to hold his sign elsewhere if he chose to.

- Police relayed details of a child custody issue to the Ephrata Police Department. The father of the child, who lives in Ephrata, hadn’t returned a child to the mother at the time determined by their custody agreement, she said.

8/26 - A theft was reported on Birch Street with no further details available.
