Isadore R. "Manny" McDougal, age 86, of Nespelem, Washington, "Proud Member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville", "Indian Activist", "Master Tanner" and "Travelling Man" passed away in Grand Coulee, Washington on Monday, June 5, 2023.

He was born Sunday, November 29th, 1936 in Nespelem, Washington to Ned Isadore & Isabelle Mary Rinehart-McDougal. Private Manny McDougal served with the United States Marine Corps in California and Germany, prior to his discharge in 1957.

As a member of "AIM" (American Indian Movement), Manny joined members of tribes from all over the United States in the "Occupation of Alcatraz Island" from 1969 to 1971 where he served as a cook and treasurer and the "Occupation of Wounded Knee" in 1973, where he served as a cook.

Considered by the some, "The last of the Old" or "As A Chief", Manny held strong to his people's traditional ways, he was sought out by many as a teacher in the tanning of hides, to create custom, historically accurate tribal regalia and by those who just wanted to sit and listen to Manny - the sharer of stories, such as "A Twist In The Coyote Tail".

Constantly on the move, Manny never stayed in one place too long, from California to enjoying visits with family in Canada and any point between and beyond. A man who loved the freedom of the out of doors, it was not uncommon for Manny to decide to walk the 16 miles from his home to town.

Manny is survived by his daughter: Phoebe Grunlose; his sister: Christine; grandchildren: Joel Campbell, Katrina Gadberry and Jessie Johnson and five Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son: Mark McDougal; his father: Ned Isadore McDougal; his mother: Isabelle Mary Rinehart-McDougal and his brother: Ernie McDougal.

A family dressing for Manny will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Strate Funeral Home, Grand Coulee, WA, followed by a visitation/viewing Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Omak Long House, Omak, WA. A community rosary & wake will occur Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 7:00 PM also at the Omak Long House, with Manny's funeral service Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM also at the Omak Long House. Manny's graveside service will follow his funeral at Ellisforde Cemetery, Ellisforde, WA.
