Lake Roosevelt High School's track and field did well in meets in Manson and Quincy in the last week, drawing attention from competing schools.

At the Manson Small Schools meet April 18, LR's distance team of Logan Marconi and Caden Portch took first and second place, respectively, in the 1,600-meter race.

Marconi ran it in five minutes, 16.05 seconds. Portch crossed the finish line in 5:21.16.

"It is exciting to see our distance runners' hard work in practice pay off in meets," commented Head Coach Lori Adkins. "They have been running exceptionally!"

Portch and Marconi joined Dillan Yazzie, John Cooley in another hard race, placing second behind Brewster, the district leader in the 4X400 relay race. The Raiders' time: 3:55.85, just 6.55 seconds behind the Bears.

"Teams are noticing that LR is on the track in the 4x4 relay and running tough!" Adkins said.

Carly Neddo won the javelin event with a throw of 103 feet, besting number two Brewster by 16 feet, one inch.

Adkins noted Alex Button set personal best marks in all her events.

"It is super hard to get a "PB," Adkins said. "Alex pulled that off in all three of her events!"

Button threw the javelin 31 feet, nine inches; put the shot 14-7, and tossed the discus 38-6.75.

Also scoring PBs were Dillan Yazzie in the 400 (58.21), Zach Towner in the shot put (33-3) and discus (86-5), William George in discus (105-6), John Cooley in long jump (16-3), Raeley Portch in 100M hurdles (20.95), and Madelynn Carmen in the long jump (12-11).

As a team, LR came in sixth in the girls' meet, with 44 points. In the boys's meet, the Raiders were fifth, with 71.

Brewster won both boys' and girls' competitions in the 16-event meet.

At the 25-school Quincy Invite April 22, nine Raider boys and three girls set personal best marks, Adkins said. "It was hard to get on the scoreboard at this large meet, but we can't lose sight of the fact that the athletes competed really well and improved their times and distances!"

Carmen brought her PB time in the 200-meter race to 31.4; Neddo set a season record in the shot of 26-8.75, and Arianna Waters set a PB of 24-3.
