Sara "Rosalie" Scallan was born June 26, 1937 in Coulee Dam, Washington to Carlisle "Bill" and Elizabeth "Betty" Beery. She passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, at home in Coulee Dam, surrounded by her daughters.

In her younger years, Rosalie was an avid horsewoman and a gifted trainer, spending many days horseback riding with the Moore girls and catching wild horses on the reservation. She graduated from Coulee Dam High School as Salutatorian in 1955. On July 30, 1955, she married David "Scotty" Scallan and together they ran cattle and farmed. They had three daughters: Carla, Gina and Shelley. They ended their marriage in 1977.

Rosalie was an unbelievably hard worker and talented woman who helped support her family during austere times. She sold eggs, milk, butchered chickens, baked bread, was a world class seamstress, quilter, and gardener, and she canned all the family food for years.

Rosalie was a revered 4-H leader who influenced many young people and lead by example in order to teach future generations traits of discipline, dedication, responsibility, achievement and community service. Many awards were won by members and Rosalie for outstanding achievement.

She had a respected career as a Postmaster and worked her way up through the Postal system. She was a revered Postmaster Trainer with an impeccable attention to detail. She trained employees throughout the Northwest and Alaska for numerous years before retiring in 1999.

In 1993 she met her life partner Mel McKerlie, and together they shared an adventurous life of travel and activities until his passing on December 17, 2019. Their love for each other and zest for life were infectious to all of their friends and family.

Over the years Rosalie brought many women together establishing countless lifelong friendships and founding the annual "Boobie Cruise" houseboat trip with her closest of girlfriends. She also started her own family tradition of houseboat trips 34 years ago to ensure the family was all together one week of the year, a week that still to this day is sacred, celebrated and treasured by the family.

Rosalie was a strong, talented woman, and a deeply loved and respected matriarch of her family. She took great pride in all that she aspired and all that she loved; her homes, friendships, hobbies, personal successes, and obstacles to financial freedom, but most of all, her daughters, their families, and her loved ones.

She was predeceased by her parents, life partner, Mel McKerlie, sister, Joann Paysse, brother, Dick Beery, and son-in-law, Bill "Pine" Desautel. She is survived by her daughters Carla Desautel, Gina (Brett) Seaver, Shelley (Eric) Corbin, grandchildren: Shane (Sarah) Corbin, Cole (Alissa) Seaver, Brea Desautel, Drew Desautel, great-grandchildren Kylie and Kasen Corbin and her special Kilroy Bay, ID family and "Charlie's Boyz" of Lake Havasu, AZ.

In honor of her wishes there will be no public service.

"Until we meet again Mom. You are forever in our hearts, therefore forever alive and well, and forever walking beside us."
