The Raider tennis team is excited to be holding court having competed with Tonasket and Liberty Bell this past week.

The Raiders played in Tonasket March 29 and hosted Liberty Bell March 30, but are on spring break now and won't play again until April 11 in Omak at 4 p.m.

"The season is off to a great start, and the kids are super excited about tennis," Head Coach Billy Monroe said. "Due to our large numbers, I have been mixing up the lineups lately to try and get everyone a match, which has been working out well.  Teyten Flores and Reese Hansen are off to a strong start this season with each of them winning two matches so far. "

Monroe noted that Amy Dorman has been playing number-one singles as a freshman. "Even though she has had some tough matches she is improving every week," Monroe said. "Seniors Raeanna Joe and Terai Shanklin-Bob have played both singles and doubles this season and have three wins apiece," he said.

After spring break, the LR tennis schedule "gets really busy with a ton of matches," the coach noted.

Monroe also explained the new playoff circumstances for the girls this year.

"Big news for tennis fans is that the girls will have their own 'B' State this year," he said. "In the past, we have had to partner with the 'A' schools and share allocations.  As of now, the top three girls from our league will qualify for state."

The boys' teams, however, "unfortunately will still have to compete against the [Caribou Trail League] teams of Omak, Cashmere, Chelan, Cascade and Quincy to qualify for postseason," Monroe said.
