Wrestling heading into postseason

Following a boys event in Okanogan and girls event in Ephrata, Raider wrestlers are moving into the postseason starting with the district tournament in Tonasket.

On Jan. 25, the boys wrestled with Okanogan opponents in a dual event.

Head Coach Billy Monroe highlighted a couple matches that stood out to him.

“Teyten Flores wrestled a good match last night,” he said, “and Landon Krohn wrestled a very tough opponent from Okanogan that has pinned him three times this year.  Landon wrestled smart and closed the distance losing only 10-4. He at one point almost put the opponent on his back.”

On the same day, LR’s two girl wrestlers went to Ephrata for a mix and match.

Kaylee Landeros won one match and lost one, Monroe said, while Arianna Waters won two and lost one.

“The match [Waters] lost was to the #8 ranked girl in state,” Monroe said. “Arianna was winning 4-0 going into the third period. She unfortunately made a mistake.”

Post season begins with the boys’ district tournament on Saturday, Feb. 5, in Tonasket at 10 a.m, and the girls wrestling at Liberty/Spangle High School at 10:30 a.m. the same day.

“The top three wrestlers from districts qualify for the super-regional in Warden the following weekend,” Monroe explained. “The top five from super regional qualify for state. Super region this year is every B team in Eastern Washington. It will be extremely competitive and many of the finals matches will most likely be a preview of the state finals the following week.”

“I am looking forward to postseason and believe that we can get a half dozen or so kids to state this year,” Monroe added.
