Lake Roosevelt Junior/Senior High School is in need of a new principal again with current Principal Kirk Marshlain resigning to take a special education director position in Okanogan.

The Grand Coulee Dam School District Board of Directors accepted Marshlain’s resignation, effective June 30, at the April 26 board meeting.

Marshlain has served as principal for the past two school years at LR.

“It’s a decision that came based on family needs and trying to raise my family and provide what they need,” Marshlain told the board.

Marshlain said his time at LR coincided with “a difficult time for education,” referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he thanked Superintendent Paul Turner for his mentorship, expressing gratitude towards the board, staff, and community as well.

He said his time at LR gave him “a new perspective on education, specifically on diversity and cultural awareness,” and that he “gained a new perspective on what it means to serve kids.”

“I want to be a better leader for kids, and being here has been a life changing experience,” he said.

“My time here, although brief, has been a life fulfilling experience for me as well as my wife and two kids,” his resignation letter reads. “Working throughout the last couple of years has brought many challenges due to COVID-19, but I consider myself lucky to have been here in Grand Coulee to both learn and grow as a leader.”
