Raider football wins another shutout

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders shutout the Oroville Hornets in Coulee Dam on Friday, winning 44-0.

The Raiders got on the board just a few minutes into the first quarter when quarterback Hunter Whitelaw threw a long touchdown pass to Sam Wapato in the back of the endzone.

Wapato got the next touchdown, as well, with a roughly 65-yard punt return.

Whitelaw ran in for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.

Later, a 33-yard pass from Whitelaw to Chase Clark brought the Raiders five yards shy of the endzone, and Brit Egbert got them there on a run for another touchdown.

Another touchdown pass from Whitelaw to Malachi Rasmussen put the Raiders up 36-0 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Whitelaw had a 34-yard touchdown run, putting the final score at 44-0.

Jaimen Schmidt was three for three in kicking extra points.

Whitelaw ran for 100 yards and threw for 129 during the game.

The Raider defense had seven sacks in the game, with Rasmussen getting an interception.

The shutout was LR's second in the shortened season, having put down the Tonasket Tigers last week.

Their next game is scheduled for this Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at home in Coulee Dam against Manson.

Volleyball splits their games

The Lady Raiders volleyball team lost 3-0 against Okanogan but won 3-2 against Warden on Saturday in Okanogan.

Their next games are scheduled for March 20 at home in Coulee Dam when they'll host both Royal and Manson at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively.

Soccer kicks off

The Lady Raiders soccer team competed in their first game of the season Saturday , losing 12-0 in Tonasket against the Lady Tigers.

A game was scheduled at home at the former middle school in Grand Coulee on Tuesday against Moses Lake.

Another home game is scheduled for Thursday against Pateros at 4 p.m.

They'll play Moses Lake again in Moses Lake on March 23 at 5 p.m.

Cross Country

The Raiders cross country team ran at Crescent Bar Golf Course in Quincy March 13.

"The course was a true 5k, so it was good to see how the kids handled it," Head Coach Billy Monroe said. "Overall, I felt we did well. We were the top B school. Chase Marchand was the number-two freshman overall in the race. Colton Jackson, Sergio Galicia and Brandon Pino all ran a strong race, as well. Kailah Leadingham is improving every week on the girls' side, and Marteena O'Flynn-Fulfer battled through an injury to finish the race Saturday.  She was given the option to call it quits but refused and chose to tough it out the last mile."

The Raiders are scheduled to run next at Eastside Park in Omak on Saturday, March 20, at 11 a.m.
