Michael Dwayne Stead Sr., 55, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, in Grand Coulee, Washington. Michael was born Friday, March 27, 1964, in Rosebud, South Dakota, to Benjamin and Hannah Cornelius-Stead.

During his school years, Michael loved sports and enjoyed being a member of the school track, football and especially the baseball team. He attended Sherman Indian School in California and then Lake Roosevelt High School in Coulee Dam, Washington, where Michael graduated, Class of 1983.

A proud member of the Onieda Tribe of Minnesota, Michael loved immersing himself in his Ancestral Traditions, especially the Sweat Lodge. In adulthood, Michael loved playing pool and continued his love of playing ball as a member of both the "Clean Machine" softball team in California and the "Nespelem River Rats" softball team of Nespelem, Washington. When not participating in sports, Michael tried to never miss a chance to "loudly" root for his teams: "Oakland Raiders", "Golden State Warriors" and "Oakland A s".

Michael's greatest joy in life was, beyond doubt, spending time with friends and his family whom he adored.

Predeceased by both of his parents, Michael's legacy lives on through his children: Stephanie Stead (Ira Timentwa), Michael D. Stead Jr. and Brianna Stead; grandchildren: Jordanna Munson, Quedyn Stead, Shaniyah Stead, Jerek Timentwa and Azelea Stead; brothers: Mark Stead, Glen Stead, Henry Stead, Daryl Stead, and Craig Stead; sisters: Sandra Stead, Linda Stead, Diana Stead, Barbara Stead and Gloria Stead; many many nephews and nieces and "Max" - Michael's beloved cocker spaniel and constant companion.

Michael's dressing was held at 10 a.m., Sunday, December 1, 2019, at Strate Funeral Home, in Grand Coulee, followed by his service at the Nespelem Community Center in Nespelem, Washington. Burial will take place in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, St. Francis, South Dakota.
