Lydig Construction Assistant Superintendent Bohman Swanson at the Colville Tribal headquarters job site, provided better statistics on workers after a story in last week’s Star highlighted the jobs the project is offering. Swanson said that while about 50 workers are on site each day, about 30 of those, or 58 percent, are Native American.

The company will need about 120 workers in coming months.

The 155,000-square-foot project is scheduled for completion by October 31, 2015.

Star accepting nominations for volunteer honor

The Star is accepting nominations for the annual Volunteer of the Year award until Monday, Nov. 24.

Letters of nomination should be as specific as possible about why the candidate should be honored, including contact information for the nominator and for anyone who could speak about the nomination.

City vehicles

to be sold

Electric City has decided to declare as surplus three of its vehicles. A 1965 Dodge will be sold, with funds going to the city’s fire department fund; a 1980 Toyota pickup with proceeds going to the city’s water/sewer fund; and a 1983 International with sander, plow and dump bed, with proceeds going to the street equipment fund. The city will soon advertise these vehicles for sale to the highest bidder. Bids will be opened at 2 p.m. Dec. 9.

City to give senior meals a boost

The Electric City council voted last Tuesday night to give the Senior Meal program $2,500. The program delivered 2,047 meals in Electric City, 4,898 in Grand Coulee, 1,079 in Coulee Dam, 3,205 in Coulee City and 460 meals out of the area from October, 2013 through September, 2014, for a total of 12,689 meals. The council also voted to join the chamber of commerce at an expense of $125.

Church to offer Thanksgiving

The Church of the Nazarene will hold its annual community Thanksgiving dinner, Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Senior Center from 2-4 p.m.

The Senior Center is offering a Thanksgiving turkey dinner and dessert potluck Wednesday, tonight at 5 p.m.

No pot business allowed

Electric City’s council last week passed a six-month moratorium prohibiting marijuana production, processing and retail sales and/or medical marijuana production, processing, cultivation, storage, sale, delivery, exchange or bartering, including collective gardens and dispensaries, in all zoning districts within the city. A public hearing on the ordinance is planned at a later date.
