Raider football ended the 2014 season with a loss to Soap Lake on Senior Night at Lake Roosevelt, 37-7.

LR finished 1-7 overall and 0-5 in Central Washington 2B South League play.

"Not the result we wanted on Senior Night," Head Coach Steve Files said. "Our two seniors, Trey Nicholson and Curtis Nault, were invaluable to us this season."

LR entered the game with a depleted roster and many players playing different spots than they had in the Homecoming game just three weeks earlier.

Soap Lake scored early and quick, building a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter. LR drove the ball down to the red zone late in the first quarter and seemed to be ready to score, but gave the ball back to Soap Lake on downs.

In the second quarter, Reese Caddy was in the right place at the right time to grab an interception at midfield. LR could not get a drive going and tried a fake punt to Caddy who was tackled for a loss and the ball was turned over to the Eagles. Soap Lake was then back in control for the rest of the second quarter, building a halftime lead of 27-0.

The third quarter the Raiders were able to attack the Eagles offense after they scored another touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Jacob Palmer was taken out of the game due to penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct. The official talked to Coach Files, who then called a timeout to talk to the team about the issue.

Soap Lake scored their final points on a field goal midway through the fourth.

It was then that LR was able to string together a drive to the end zone, capped by a touchdown pass from Nathaniel Hall to Palmer.

Christian Ruiz made his first extra point in a high school varsity game to make the score 37-7.

Soap Lake then took a knee and ran out the clock. The Eagles will take on Manson this week at Soap Lake.

When asked who shined Coach Files had this to say. "A lot more freshmen and sophomores were pressed into varsity duty this season than anticipated," Files said. "The coaches are proud of the courage and teamwork our young players displayed."

Though the Raiders were eligible to play the Bridgeport Mustangs this Friday in a crossover game, Files and Athletic Director Rich Black decided to forego the extra game.

"Due to injuries and a short roster, we will not be participating in the League Cross-over football game," Black said. "We are not alone. In fact there will only be one cross-over game played."

Four crossover games will decide playoff berths for the Central Washington 2B League and in a decision made by the league before LR joined in 2010, the remaining teams would play an extra game in two more crossovers.

LR, Bridgeport, and Liberty Bell will not take part this season in the crossovers. For more information about the crossover games, go to http://www.cwbathletics.com/.
