  • Raiders finish sixth at districts

    Raider baseball competed for a state berth until the very last moment possible Saturday, finishing sixth in the district tournament. The Raiders had defeated Kittitas on the May 11 to stay alive in the tournament. In the first game Saturday, the Raiders faced the Warden Cougars. Lake Roosevelt and Warden played a tight game. The final score favored Warden 5-4. LR was not yet done as they still had one more shot at the state tournament. District 5-6 was allotted five spots to state this year.... Full story

  • Four golfers head to districts

    Four Raider golfers will be competing today at the district tournament, which is being held at Alta Lake Golf Course. To make it there, the Raiders played in the last match of the season May 11 at home against Okanogan and Moses Lake Christian. Moses Lake Christian won the match with a total score of 379. The first place for the boys was a tie between Billy Norwell of Okanogan and Sam Roeber of MLCA with 86 strokes.   • Tennis loses out at Districts

    Lake Roosevelt’s tennis players had their 2015 season come to a close Saturday at the first round of the district tournament. Only one team made it out of the single elimination round. That was the doubles team of Tanya Ang and Riley Pitner. Ang and Pitner came back from a 4-7 deficit against the Butler sisters of Liberty Bell to win 9-7.   • Lady Raiders close season at 2-18

    Lady Raider softball ended its season at Pateros May 15 with two losses. The final overall win-loss record for LR was 2-18 with a 2-14 Central Washington North record. “We have a very young team returning to next year’s roster, only losing two seniors,” Head Coach Jamie Lezard on the season and what he hopes to see in 2016. “We hope that we have a great turnout next season, and we are excited (for) the newcomers and looking forward to the next season.” On May 12 at home the Lady Raiders had hosted to the Tonasket Tigers for Senior Night.   • Baseball finishes season with winning record

    Raider baseball finished the regular season May 5 with a doubleheader win over the Tonasket Tigers. The wins put the overall win-loss record for the Raiders for 2015 at 14-6, with a league record of 11-5. The wins over the Tigers in Coulee Dam put the Raiders in the number-three spot for the North, and on Monday they took on the Kittitas Coyotes for the first round of District 5-6 play at the Paul Lauzier Athletic Complex in Moses Lake.   • Tennis ready for districts

    With the regular season over, the Raiders are now preparing for district, which starts Saturday at 9a.m. in Omak. District B Tennis will be split between the Olympic Racket Club and City Park in Omak. The Raiders are allowed two singles players and two doubles teams at Districts. The top four finishers in both singles and doubles play will move on to Cashmere May 23 when they will face the Caribou Trail League competitors for entry to the state tournament.   • Lady Raiders lose to Warriors

    The Lady Raiders travelled to Hartline on May 5, where they lost both games of a softball doubleheader to the Warriors. In the first game, the Warriors jumped ahead 7-0 before the Raiders scored two runs in the top of the third inning. ACH added five more runs in the bottom of the third to complete the victory 12-2. ACH held the Lady Raiders to just one run in the second game. That run came after the Warriors built a nine-run lead. The final in the second game was ACH 11- LR 1.     Raider Golf finished the season on Monday at home against Okanogan and Moses Lake Christian. Now they are preparing for the district tournament, which will take place at Banks Lake Golf Course next Tuesday. Those who qualify will move on to the state B golf tournament, which this year is at Sun Willows Golf Club in Pasco.     Raider track and field athletes completed the regular season Friday at the Ron Vanderholm Invitational tournament in Royal City. Today, they are heading to Tonasket where the District 6 portion of the Central Washington League Sub-District Tournament is being held. The top five move on from sub-districts to districts in Ephrata on May 22. At the Ron Vanderholm Invite, Katelynn Schilling set a new personal record and came home with another blue ribbon.     The Raiders travelled to Mansfield April 28 for the Iceberg Invitational and then to Oroville on May 2 for the Draggoo Financial-Oroville Invitational. The boys placed third overall at Mansfield with 68 team points. Raider girls took fifth overall with 20 team points. At Mansfield, Katelynn Schilling recorded two career personal records.     Raider Golf travelled to Okanogan Valley Golf Club Thursday for a match against Okanogan and Oroville. The boys’ medalist at the meet was Joey Staggs of Okanogan, who won with 92 strokes over the course. The girls’ medalist was Vanessa Venderweide, also of Okanogan, who shot a 108. Top performers for Lake Roosevelt were eighth-grader Darin Whiteman and Lucas Bird. Whiteman shot a 115 and Bird was right behind with a 116.     The Raider Baseball team took on the Pateros Billygoats in a doubleheader last week, adding two for their win column. Lake Roosevelt jumped ahead in both games at Pateros April 28, and held on to that lead to come home with two victories. Pateros tried to come back in the first game, but LR held them off.   • Raider tennis prepares for the late season stretch

    The Raider tennis team played two matches last week on the road. At Liberty Bell, the Raider boys picked up one win in a singles match. Cristian Ruiz defeated Fallen Hutson after two hours of play. The Raider girls won two matches. Areielle White won her singles match, and the duo of Mary Clark and Rylee Pitner won their doubles match. Harmony Witten, in singles, and the doubles team of Tanya Ang and Alaynah Herman came close to winning their matches.     The young Raider golf team is showing great improvement as the late season run begins, the coach said. The team competed at Moses Point April 20 and at Banks Lake Golf Course on Thursday. At Banks Lake, about 30 players attended from high schools in Oroville, Warden, Riverside Christian and Lake Roosevelt.     After the first day, Jessica Tufts could boast that she'd outfished her husband, dad and father-in-law in the third annual Triple Fish Challenge on Coulee Playland at Banks Lake. Jessica caught the biggest smallmouth bass (3.35 pounds) on Saturday, although her husband, Alex, reeled in the best trout on day two (2.51). The little tournament grew to 28 anglers this year from 18 in 2014 and included five kids. One of them, Payton Phillips, outfished all the adults in terms of total weight caught... Full story

    The Raiders played two doubleheaders last week, winning three of the four games. In a doubleheader at home against the Oroville Hornets April 21, the Raiders won both games by large margins. LR blanked the Hornets in the first game, 13-0, then scored 20 runs in route to a 20-6 win in game two. In Liberty Bell April 24, the Raiders played the first game close, but the Mt. Lions eked out a 3-2 win in the first game In the second game, LR got a big boost from a Daniel Loch two-run RBI single in the second inning that helped the Raiders to a 3-1... Full story

    Kourtney Harrington pitched the entire first game against Oroville last week, throwing 162 pitches, seven strikeouts, and 10 walks. Lake Roosevelt’s team would lose both games to Oroville April 21 in Grand Coulee, but only by one point each. At the plate, LR recorded eight hits and 12 walks. Those hits included five runs batted in, and they stole 8 bases. But leaving eight runners on the basepaths hurt and led to the final score of 9-8 for Oroville in game one.     Raider track and field competed in two meets last week, where the team’s shot put athletes excelled, a boy and a girl. The first was a Bi-County meet at Davenport April 21, where Octavio Alejandre picked up two first-place finishes. In the shot, Alejandre threw 48 feet, 4.25 inches, and in discus he threw a personal record of 121 feet, 7 inches for another first-place finish.
