    Fireman Nathaniel Gerald Loch graduated from Navy Basic Training at RTC Great Lakes, Ill., on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014. He is currently at NNPTC in Goose Creek, S.C., for Nuclear "A" School, Machinist's Mate.   • Marcolins celebrate their 50th in Germany

    Felix and Elizabeth "Liz" Marcolin celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a 10-day trip to Germany in December with their daughters Kathy and Kerin, Kerin's husband Steffen, and their three children. Much of their visit centered around the home of Steffen's parents, Horst and Anneliese Ludwig, in Saint Julian, Rheinland-Pfalz. Open-air Christmas markets, cathedrals, and castles were highlights of the trip. Future anniversary plans include a celebration with their entire family in July... Full story

    The community is invited to the Coulee Dam Community Presbyterian Church to share in a time of celebration and thanksgiving for Pastor Kevin Lind and his family. Pastor Lind has faithfully led the Community Church for over five years, and along with his wife Alisa, a second grade teacher, have actively served both their church and their community.     Alissa Mansker, Grand Coulee, has been awarded a $5,000 New Horizons scholarship by Royal Neighbors of America, the organization announced last week. A one-time payment will be made to her college of choice and will be used to help fund tuition, room and board, and books. Since its creation in 1961, the Royal Neighbors of America Scholarship Program has awarded more than $4 million to its members to assist with the costs of continuing education.     Aaron Boyd Galbraith was awarded a degree of Doctor of Medicine recently from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University in Hanover, N.H. Galbraith is the son of Allan Galbraith and Lorena Boyd of Wenatchee and the grandson of Larry and Gerry Boyd of Coulee Dam.     Rob Skordas, who had a chiropractic practice in Grand Coulee years ago but changed careers, is now the manager of Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Dams Office, which manages, operates and maintains Hoover, Davis and Parker dams and associated facilities on the Colorado River. You can bet your booties that yard sale shoppers in the Coulee are in for a heck of a ride this summer if the half-dozen sales held in Electric, Grand and Elmer Cities are a true indicator. Saturday’s rummage sale at the Grand Coulee’s Zion Lutheran Church had all of the elements of a Priority One sale: a great location in a grassy, shady area with stuff set out on tables and on tarps and lots of volunteers to help with pricing, sacking and even loading.     Five men and one woman were on hand last week to celebrate their 70th Mason City High School class reunion. The five men were graduates of 1943, and the woman graduated in 1946.
