Lavone was born April 14, 1928, in Longview, Wash., to George Jinks Buzard and Leota Amelia Nix. She grew up in Georgetown, Seattle Wash., near Seattle as well as Beach Drive (near Alki Point) in West Seattle. She graduated from Cleveland High School in Seattle.
