EPHRATA, Wash. – Grant PUD commissioners approved an average rate increase of 2 percent on Monday, Nov. 26, during their regularly scheduled business meeting. The new rates, which vary by customer group, go into effect for all meters read after Jan. 1, 2014. The new rates are projected to increase retail revenue to the utility by 2 percent. Drivers behind the increase stem from a number of capital projects associated with the utility’s federal license to operate Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams. Grand Coulee Police 11/11 - A Continental Heights man was taken to jail on a charge of domestic violence and violating a no-contact order. The report stated that the man shoved out of the door and spat on a woman with whom he had been in a relationship. Grand Coulee Police 11/4 - A woman living on Roosevelt Drive told police that when she came home she noticed her 55-inch TV and other articles had been taken. She said she didn’t feel safe there and was going to stay someplace else. - An officer noticed a driver using her cell phone and stopped her near the post office. Grand Coulee Police 10/26 - A Roosevelt Drive resident reported that one of his tires had been slashed, apparently with a knife. Cost of repair tire was $150. 10/28 - Police checked on a 911 call from the Jack’s Spring Canyon Service. When checking on the call, the officer learned that someone had gassed up and then left without paying. The amount was $50. This week marks the beginning of Trees of Sharing 2013. The community-wide Trees of Sharing program is a special way that Grand Coulee Dam area residents may anonymously bless local children who might not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas season.
