Derlyn and Sheila Brown have returned from a mission and will have an opportunity to speak on it this Sunday at the local Coulee Dam Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Browns served their mission at the Cove Fort Visitor Center in Cove Fort, Utah. They left in March of 2014 and returned in August, after serving approximately 18 months. Grand Coulee Dam Area residents may dispose of household hazardous waste for free on Friday, September 11, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Delano Regional Transfer Station. Only hazardous waste generated by households will be accepted. Hazardous products have labels with words such as warning, danger, caustic, flammable, and poison. These chemicals should be disposed of through hazardous-waste collection opportunities; not in the garbage, down the drain, or on the ground. Collecting shoes for developing countries will continue through the end of this month, Coulee Medical Center Guild president Clea Pryor said this week. The Guild has been collecting donated shoes since early July, with a goal of getting 100 bags of shoes. They had about 82 bags of shoes as of Tuesday, stored in a room in the basement of Coulee Medical Center's professional building. Grand Coulee Police 9/1 - A resident of Continental Heights complained to police that another tenant was banging on doors and spraying an ammonia solution in the hallway. Grand Coulee Police 8/24 - A man from Georgia has been in the area claiming to be collecting funds for firefighters. He had been to at least three firms in the area. 8/25 - A woman on Prims Place told police that someone, during the night, had taken a “Children Playing” sign from her yard. - An intoxicated man was walking in and out of traffic. An explosive device was found along a road in Lakeview Wednesday, in the community between Soap Lake and Ephrata, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported. The Richland Police Bomb Squad assisted Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies on Wednesday night when a small, homemade explosive device was found along a road. North Central Regional Library has announced the Fall 2015 Columbia River Reads book, "The Mockingbird Next Door," by Marja Mills. In Mills's memoir, she recounts her time living next door to the enigmatic author of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Go Set a Watchman," Harper Lee, and her sister, Alice Lee. The National Park Service here has landed a traveling quilt show for July 1-4, 2016, as part of a celebration of its 100th anniversary. Administrative Officer Janet Valen at the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area said the traveling exhibit has 177 quilts depicting the flora, fauna and landscape of the country’s 59 major national parks.
