Tryouts for the 2018 Colorama Rodeo Queen were held at the Ridge Riders Arena in Grand Coulee, on Saturday, October 7. The Coulee Dam High School class of 1957 held their 60th class reunion in Spokane, Washington, Sept. 22-23, beginning with a luncheon Friday at the home of Herm and Jeraldine Caviness in south Spokane, then dinner at the Twigs restaurant with a program and video following. A number of community members have joined the school pep band to play at athletic events, and several turned up at last Friday's football game. Those who have joined in with students include Charlie Pierce, Mara Landrum, Tim Stott, Matt Tillman, Cristian Ruiz, Dave McClure and Andrew McClure. When the community steps up, things happen. There's a lot of new white sand out at Banks Lake Golf Course, thanks to two benefit events. The first was a golf tournament that raised about $2,500 to revitalize sand traps at the golf course. The tournament, run by former Grant County Port District 7 commissioner Stan Conklin, produced enough money for the golf course to order a truckload of white sand from the Inchelium area. With weather nearly ideal, despite a little wildfire smoke, moods were upbeat all around for the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce's Harvest Festival last weekend. The event drew in 200 registrants for the Run the Dam foot race, gained a powwow hosted by Coulee Medical Center and showed local wannabe barbecuers what real meat tastes like at a sanctioned barbecue contest. Everyone who joins the Arbor Day Foundation in September will receive 10 free trees as part of the Foundation’s Trees for America program.
