Grand Coulee Police 7/17 - A Seattle woman told police that, while she shopped at Safeway, someone took a makeup kit, a pair of shoes, and some medicines from her car. 7/20 - A woman told police that she hadn’t heard from her brother for about two weeks. The LRHS class of 1985 will be celebrating their 30th year class reunion the weekend of August 21 and 22. Friday night, please meet at the Electric City Tavern for mingling and drinks. Grand Coulee Police 7/13 - Someone threw a rock through the window at Jack’s Spring Canyon Service but got away with only about $20 worth of items. The thief scattered Cheetos onto the parking lot. The window will cost about $100 to replace. It was reported that the store might have the thief on its security tape. - A person who walks regularly along Martin Road said he saw several batteries just out of view stashed along the road. A mother osprey hovers near her three chicks at their nest in Coulee Dam Monday. During the recent heat, the parent birds stood over the chicks to shade them atop the 100-foot pole erected when new high power line tower construction made moving the nest from an old tower necessary. The seniors accept aluminum cans ONLY. Please do not put cardboard, plastic bottles or other aluminum in the collection sacks. In 2013, the Seniors collected 3800 pounds (almost 2 tons) of cans and took in approximately $1500 for the Senior Center. That is approximately 30 cans for everyone in the Grand Coulee Dam area. The program helps keep the doors open at the seniors and keeps the cans out of the landfills. Please do not put other material in with the cans because we have to dispose of it and the and that raises the already high garbage... Full story

June was dry, indeed, and hot, too. Let’s start with a look at the temperatures first. The mean June temperature is 65.5°F, while here at the home weather station we had a mean of 74.9°F, a whopping 9.4°F increase. The all-time high temperature for June was 105°F back in 1938. I recorded two days, June 27 and 28 with highs over 107°F (107.1 and 107.9 respectively). Grand Coulee Police 6/26 - Police assisted a Coulee Dam officer in pursuit of a man driving at speeds up to 80 mph as he moved from below the dam into the city of Grand Coulee. The vehicle was pursued at speeds well over the speed limit until stopped on Federal Avenue. A 4-H Sewing Day Camp is being held at the Malott Grange Hall July 13-16 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is for age 8 and up. Parents are welcome to sew along. Bring a sack lunch and your sewing machine.
