    Grand Coulee Police 12/28 - There was a report of a vehicle stolen from a residence on 2nd Street. The owner of the vehicle said it had been locked and the transmission didn’t work. She stated that she told a man he could have it if he transferred title to his name. The man in question has been incarcerated for sometime.     The Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Dept. will be putting on an EMT Class. It will be part online and part classroom. There will be online modules that have to be done within certain time frames along with practicals that will be completed at the fire station. Also study sessions will be held at the fire station.     Coulee Dam was recently re designated as a “Tree City USA” by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources after 10 years away from the program, the town announced this week. To qualify as a Tree City USA community the town was required to meet four standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters: • maintain a tree board or department, • have a tree care ordinance in place and • have a Community Forestry Program with an annual budget of at least $2 per resident, and promote Arbor Day wit... Full story

    Grand Coulee Police 12/23 - Police checked on a report of a man lying on the sidewalk in front of the Mariah House Apartments on Main Street. Police found the man known to them, and he stated he would walk home to his place on Hill Avenue. - A man who had pulled into the crane area at the top of the dam to answer his phone was told it was not a parking area.     Grand Coulee Police 12/7 - Police went to a house on Stevens Avenue in Electric City on a report that a Nespelem man had been hit over the head with a beer bottle. Police went inside and found the injured man holding a bandana over his head. He told police to “get out” and that they were not welcome. Police waited on the porch for medical staff to arrive and when things got under control left the premises. 12/19 - A man living on Continental Heights told police that he is being harassed by another tenant.     Sixty years ago, the holiday season in the community stretching from Electric City to Nespelem featured all kinds of parties, programs and events. Here's a sampling of some of them and the folks who were here in our towns back then. Floyd H.     The “ Lighting of the Library’ was held Dec. 9 at the Grand Coulee Public Library and was attended by about 75 people. Santa arrived, courtesy of the Grand Coulee Fire Department, and greeted each child in attendence with a new book and a candy cane. Cookies and punch were furnished by the librarians and the library board. There were several door prizes donated by members of the community.     November brought more rain and a touch of snow, which put us over the mean precipitation in November by nearly a half inch, at 0.49 inches. We ended the month with a total of 1.73 inches as compared to our mean of 1.24 inches. As I write this, we have had a total 11.97 inches of precipitation for the year, compared to our annual average of 10.55 inches.     This past year the Coulee Pioneer Museum has been displaying “Wash Day in the Coulee” thanks to Coulee Recycling and Loepp’s Furniture for their loan of a vintage washing machine, to “Harvest in the Coulee”. Now the display has been changed to celebrate - “The 1950’s Christmas in the Coulee.” Stop by and take a peek through the window or call Birdie Hensley at 633-2773 or 631-0303 and she will come and open up the museum.     It’s light the library time. A special program is planned for the Etheta Anderson Grand Coulee Library on Tuesday, Dec. 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A special lighting of the library, a repeat of last year’s program, is planned. The library, a branch of North Central Regional Library, is located at 225 Federal Avenue.
